Mine was cracked before I took delivery. Pointed that out and the mgv driver’s seat that was mis-sewn near top. They’re obviously a design flaw or atleast poor qc.

Ford should give customers the option of getting a replacement MIC top or the equivalent amount to put towards an (better) aftermarket option…

Mine 23 BD is cracking in the same spots. Still have 2 years left on warranty so I’m going to wait until closer to warranty expiration have mine replaced, unless it becomes an issue with water leaking or window not functioning correctly
Or do it now in case the new one cracks on you a year later. This is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen if Ford starts denying warranty claims after 36k miles. Reading this @Ford Motor Company and/or Webasto?

PS mine is cracking too, near the C pillar behind the passenger side window. 23 BD. Waiting till Q4 for Ford to release the fix for the rattling windows to take it in once.

I bought a factory hardtop to replace my soft top earlier this year. Just over 10k miles have gone by. No problems so far. But as I read these threads, I can’t help but be a bit nervous. Been wondering, is there any correlation between cracking and the number of times a top gets taken on and off? Or does added weight from roof racks, rooftop tents or rotopax hanging on the sides play into the failure rate?
Should have bought a third party for slightly more money. Built with the same tech as the Wrangler tops that have been in worry free service for decades. Ford had to go reinvent the wheel and solve a problem nobody was complaining about (hard top weight).

Any chance the dealer will take off my hardtop and let me take my vehicle home and just bring it back after they swap the glass?

Just remember that the ones represented on this forum are only a tiny fraction of hard tops out there. Yes, I’m sure there are a ton of oblivious hard top owners out there right now driving around cracks they don’t know about but just keep that in Mindi - this is a tiny yet loud sample of the general public driving 6th gens.

Also - I installed an RCI full roof rack (and use it) after a couple months of ownership and have zero issue.. that was early early 2023 and live in Western North Carolina where it sees heat, humidity, cold, oppressive rain and dry. Garage kept FWIW but it gets put to use as its a 2022 w/ 32k

Can’t vouch for the constant weight of somebody hauling around gas but for the most part those overland heroes you see are just hauling around unused/empty cans and pristine shovels. The real OG’s out there pull that stuff off after use.

@V1Rotate, you brought a smile to my face. Thanks for the moral support. I agree with you completely regarding the “tiny yet loud sample”. Kind of that way with many things in life these days. Reality is too easily distorted. I’m happy with my 2022 and its new hardtop. Twenty-five months and 48k miles.

Btw, I assume you’re a pilot?

I have had my Bronco since March this year and was hoping to avoid participating in these threads regarding hard top issues... yet here I am.

12,600 miles on my Bronco and I have seen the first crack under the passenger side window. I have nothing mounted to the top and it has been off the vehicle once. When off, it was supported between the pins as recommended.

Unfortunately, I now fall into the 'not if, but when' camp and wonder how many owners just don't pay attention to it. The crack on my top is very small and if it hadn't been in just the right angle of lighting, I probably wouldn't have seen it this early. I wasn't looking for it- just walking by with the garbage...

What if they are structurally defective and most, if not all, are destined to crack? What will Ford do when you are at 37,000 miles?? What about 67,000? Really disappointing.

“What if” is a terrible way to live.. especially with something as inconsequential as a vehicle hard top.

I don’t know, $5,000+ cost on a new top- on a brand new vehicle-seems like something I shouldn’t have to worry about at all. Ford should have done better.

I don’t think its a doomsday as your message may suggest (terrible way to live)- in fact I’m normally a glass half full person., However, paying 40k-$100k or more for a Bronco, I would expect more from an OEM. I won’t give Ford the benefit of the doubt as it seems occurrences are on the increase and Ford has done nothing- even continues to sell the defective design. Look at the pictures- this is not ‘normal wear’ and I hope you don’t have to deal with it during your ownership.

My Raptor is a second vehicle for me- one that I enjoy fully at this point, but I expect more at the price point. Many people rely on this as their only vehicle- selling an inferior product is unacceptable. Especially considering the reported downtime for replacement.

blindly supporting an OEM is not something I’m willing to do at this point

No one is blindly supporting anything.. just don’t think it’s something I’d lay away at night worrying about. Especially since you’re in the complete luxury world of owning a raptor as a second vehicle.. no pity there for sure. We just see life differently and that’s ok.

Inconsequential? It's probably the second most expensive item in the vehicle, only after the engine.
