TFL mentioned that the engine sounds like the 4cyl. Can they really make that call on initial start up? I'd think the 4 & 6 cyl EcoBoost would sound nearly identical there. Just seems like one wouldn't be able to make such a call with such minimal exposure.

Kinda nice to at least get someone to follow this thing around a while.

It's a fairly safe bet that the mule with a Ranger body has a Ranger engine. That body has for the last 10 years only had inline engines in it as well. I get what you're saying though, and they probably couldn't tell by sound alone if it had the inline 3 cylinder Dragon Ecoboost in it.

I think it's interesting that they're taking this frankenRanger test mule to remote locations for testing. I would have expected that to be done with later prototypes that could test multiple late phase systems working together.

Sighted again, "high elevation" testing in Colorado this time. This is one occasion I wish there were some big potholes in the road so we could see suspension doing something.
I wish we would se a actual Bronco mule

Oh yeah, that's right, the whole T6 Ranger having issues with anything other than inline engines, thing. Point taken

At the same time, I do wonder if that could legit be a T6 shell-only. As in, the body panels and internal members that make the T6, a T6 are "hollowed-out" in some way and the U725/P703-ranger is underneath the wrapper. FYR, the project codes were from Carmaker1 in that U725 post awhile back so I'm just using those codes from CM1's original post.

It could be the new chassis, or a heavily modified one. "Elevation testing," if that is why the mule made a trip to Colorado, would seem to indicate they're looking at something with the engine, but unless someone gets really intrusive we'll probably never know what unless it sounds very different.

My bet is that if this is the Bronco chassis testing that the base engine for the Bronco will be the 2.3L ecoboost from the Ranger.

Regardless of what other options we might get, it seems very likely the 2.3 Ecoboost will be offered, perhaps as the base engine. Most hands on reviews of the Ranger speak favorably of the engine, so for the average buyer driving about on the road in a lighter Bronco it should do well.

The 2.3 engine in the 2019 Ranger has a lot of power 270hp to be exact in the lighter Bronco it should be unreal

I wonder why we haven't seen a 2-door version of frankenRanger here in the States?

One more thing. Does anyone else think it's odd we have only seen the T6 looking mule with ONE wheelbase? You would think at this point we would see two different length mules if it is indeed true we are getting four and two door models.
One would think that if the feankenRanger is a suspension mule, both a 2 and 4 door version would need to be tested.

Geometry and spring rates would probably need to be different.

My source at Ford told me they are rear suspension and powertrain mules. Front axle is a placeholder... hence why they haven’t bothered covering it up even after someone managed to get under one.

What do you suppose they're waiting for to make that reveal? It would be quite significant for the Bronco, and generally anything smaller than a 3/4-ton, to have a solid front axle again. I hope you are right.

My source stated(this is a few months back) that even Ford themselves hadn’t finalized between a solid front axle or an IFS, and that they were testing both options. This is supported by that post about the Bronco by the guy who claimed to work on the project, notice how he didn’t mention anything about front suspension? It’s because he didn’t know either. As for what they’re waiting for, I’d bet on them not revealing it until it’s unveiled IMO.

The post i’m referring to by the way: https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/u725-2021-my-ford-bronco-information.579/

My source at ford confirmed all of this and stated that whoever wrote that post is quite familiar with the project and that everything they revealed lines up with what he knows.

@Nickp - Yep, that post from Carmaker1 was interesting for sure. In particular, I was curious that CM1 mentioned "V6" (I'm assuming an EcoBoost of some kind) and "getrag manual" (which brings attention to that 7 speed manual rumor Jalopnik posted awhile back). That would be fantastic news (especially having the V6 paired with the stick). My concern is that it seemed like too much information for a rep to share at this point, so I'm cautious. Did your source confirm those two items specifically?

Edit: And I will note that I will still be very cautious even if your source does confirm the V6/manual are true. But that doesn't mean I won't consider any further info. :)
