No worries - not lame at all. I’m the same, but vice versa.

Would you get a manual if you knew how to drive it? If so, I am sure there are plenty of instructors on this site.

For us middle aged Gen-x fathers with pending drivers over the next few years, the manual offers advantages.

1. Kid can't text and drive when driving a manual.
2. Kid's friends likely incapable of driving the rig and thus less chance of stupid behavior.

These two things are not inconsequential to me as a father.

Missed opportunity huh?
Should’ve also baked in political parties to make this thread even juicier. :geek:
That would remove the humor from an obviously smart and funny post. Sorry if my suggestion was out of line re: objective of survey as I didn't mean to inject any controversy or sidetrack it. My bad.

This thread is definitely a great example of how a group of enthusiasts on a forum does not accurately represent the general buying public.

None taken mate!
I like to walk the line myself alongside the man in black.

Younger generations will not get this reference.

I learned how to drive out of necessity at age 26 and my dad's car had an automatic transmission. None of my friends who drive stick currently own an MT vehicle, so my options to learn MT are limited.

Almost all my vehicles are manual transmission, so of course I have to order a manual Bronco.

True enough on the Auto requirement. If I stroke out on the way to the PNW I'd like my wife to be able to at least get vehicle to side of road while she waits for ambulance lol.

Also, as SoCal is nothing but traffic congestion you have to have great leg muscles to handle the non-stop shifting in stop and go traffic in addition to extreme patience. It is what it is.

So, I guess I have to go automatic even if I didn't care about wife getting vehicle to side of road (I never let her drive as she scares the heck out of me) so I would only let her drive in the event of a medical emergency! It is what it is.

It's like you read my mind TD. To much traffic everywhere you go these days, and one should always be prepared for a medical thing. Plus, she scares the carp out of me some times. ;)?

Um... you do realized you basically just said you don't know how to drive an automatic right? Just saying

But looking at @jasminekd , back in the 70's knowing how to drive a stick was almost a requirement (luckily I got my license in the 80's). But as time went on, it was really just the sports cars that stuck to sticks and everything shifted towards auto's. So I don't see that need for everyone to learn stick. But at the same time, it's not a bad thing to know, and it's a hell of alot easier today than it was back then. They kinda make them idiot proof now ?

One of the hidden benefits of a manual transmission may be insurance.

My quoted Insurance rate on my manual transmission Mustang was so low, that I called back and talked with someone else at the insurance company to verify the number. I just could not believe it. It was LOWER than a CMAX Hybrid Plug-In (which is what I originally was shopping for).

I did this all before I bought the Mustang (V6 Manual) in 2017. I guess they are not often stolen because car thieves don't know how to drive sticks. Or maybe, Manual drivers are less distracted and are actually inherently safer?

As for resale, I am not too sure how much of a difference it makes, but I do know that Wranglers hold their value very well. Try getting a non-accident Jeep Wrangler with less than 50K miles for under $20K. It is very hard. Really hoping the Bronco holds it value just as well, regardless of Manual/Automatic.
