This is about 5k miles on the Land Cruiser since last August, running 252k total. I will change it soon. I think the UZs are known for being low stress engines, so not surprised. My Escape with 2.0L Ecoboost was black immediately after oil changes.

If your LC doesn’t have VVT then that’s irrelevant as the engine stores oil in the VVT system that isn’t drained with a pan drop, doesn’t take much of the dark oil to make it all dark. Color has zero bearing on oil life or longevity.

New 5/16” shorter and the twist and holes are much further apart compared to the old one.

Wow….10 pages! 7quarts…..stated in the owners manual!
And yes, I read all 10 pages, but I’m not sure why.

Because…..
Ford never officially said you should fill past the max fill hole on your dip stick…
They implicitly warn in the Bronco owners manual: (see highlighted Note:)

So…..
Until I had it in writing from the Ford Tech Rep that adding 7 quarts will not harm the engine…
We never had an official green light from Ford to fill past the max fill line….
Now it’s official….

Update from FORD TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO MY DEALER (Bottom photo)
7Qt fill directive

I’ve always changed my oil in all my cars as did my dad….
Anyway, from new….my Bronco dip stick read well up into the twist…. Wondered why they overfilled the oil at the factory….?????
I changed the oil in my 2..7 at 1800 miles. With 6.4 qts in it was at max full mark….

At 6400 miles I went to my dealer to get it serviced and have this 7 quart issue explained….
The service tech explained when he changed my oil that he added 7 quarts…
That… having it measure well into the twist on the dip stick was normal.
But if ever was above the twist…that it is definitely overfilled….
(His words to my ears)

So drove home 2miles to my house… waited for the engine to get stone cold… checked my oil ( multiple times ….much to my shock!!! it was well above the twist.

I pulled the bash panel and started to drain some oil….

What I discovered totally set me back!!!
(the oil) was “BLACK” (WTF😡🤬).

with this, I drained out all of the Oil…. “Black”… Black!!!!!🤬😡🤬

photos self explanatory….new oil vs 2 mile oil from Ford dealership)
Feast your eyes on (what is supposed to be) 7 quarts of fresh oil!!!!!

I’m pissed…. I will never trust anyone but myself (FORD IF YOUR LISTENING)!!!!
I hate being scammed!!!!!!
Not all Ford Service Techs are honest!!!!!

update: Just checked the 100 pound torque on the lug nuts…. They WERE NOT 100ft lb torque spec …. Nor were they torqued evenly…
😡

Good morning! Can you please privately message us with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer so that I can look into this oil concern? Thank you!

UPDATE: FORD DIRECTIVE ON 7 qt fill…..

Here is what my dealership heard back from Ford…
Which essentially says to add seven quarts blind…

Therefore Ford is saying to drain out all the oil then just add 7 quarts.

I am still not happy with this….apparently overfilling according to the dipstick (max) is acceptable practice.

At least we have this in writing as a direct Ford directive.

The engine has 7 quarts of oil and is showing high. this is the same throughout the 2.7L engines. The customer wants to make sure this is not causing any damage? [n-carra9][WEB]

Xxxxxx,(name omitted)

Thank you for the update. If the oil level is found to be the same on the like units dipsticks, then this would indicate this is likely normal for this vehicle. As long as proper maintenance is being performed with the correct oil and the correct amount of oil is being added to the engine per specifications, then this will not cause any damage to the engine.

This is old news and it has been reported many times that the dipstick is incorrect...

I take delivery tomorrow at noon. Been patiently waiting since 7-17-20. Two years and three days. I will post a pic of the dipstick. Built week of June 6th. Delivery in Dixon , Ca. I did text my sales rep and ask if the PDI checked the dipstick. He was unaware of an issue.

Crap, just picked mine up today & it looks to have the old dipstick with the H. Blend date of Wed 6-22-22
Numbers on dipstick read FT4E-6750-BF D454A Has to holes in the cross hatch area & measures 19 1/2" to the cap area above the o-ring.

Doesn't matter now..Ford officially stated that 6, 7, or 7.5 quarts all "are fine"

Where was that? More oil = better oil temp control, key for turbo life ;)
