Based on what I know, the first batch is almost 'hand-made', thus limited.
The mini +$30 plan could be the Model 3 for starlink. Compared with Garmin's inreach system, this is a better SOS setup.
I kinda feel like I'm lucky we got one of the Minis! I'm tempted to add the Mobile Priority plan to it for a month just to see if it really disables at 10 MPH, but I really can't justify it. The curiosity is eating at me, though! :ROFLMAO:

I agree 100% about the Garmin. We've got them and they're still good for peace of mind away from the truck, but the cost and functionality of the Mini make it a far superior option for what we were trying to accomplish with the Garmins.

So I further google it. Right now I believe the hardware could support mobile usage, but it is more of a beta-test and FCC regulation problem, it is banned from the software level. (multiple people say the warning message about using mini in motion).

Now you can use the Mobile Priority plan for a few crates of beer.

This YT guy claims you can use it on the go, but IMHO, a time-to-time alignment/reboot makes it unpractical.

Good finds! I'll test mine a little more today and see what happens. I agree that the occasional reboot isn't very practical.

Watching, I hope this works out to be a good solution. I'd just prefer to have one data solution that worked "everywhere" rather than cell modems and cell boosters that give the impression that you have service but you really don't.

If that is the case, try a two-phone test. One with the Starlink app and one guest phone connected to Starlink wifi only. Simply turn off the first phone after initialization. :sneaky:

A little help with the starlink ecosystem for me please.

The mini isn't available standalone yet correct?
The mini doesn't work in motion unless 10mph or less and with an expensive plan?
The mini requires a base subscription and then a mini subscription on top?

Like some others I'm also looking for basically an emergency option. I don't mind paying 150 for the month that I go out, but just confused how much it costs to get this done today and which combination of subscriptions are required for those looking to just use it once in a while on camping trips.
I wish I can order this as a standalone option not as an add on
The mini can be bought standalone for 200$ if you Central America . If your Central America you can just have a mini subscription not have to have 2 plans + no data cap bullshit.

True. A bit overpriced. However, Elon has quite a solid fanbase so they can sell for any price.
But even 599 is probably a negative margin for the first few batches, just like everything in US, the cost is high.

Anyway, the same logic can be used to complain about anything, like why life expenses are so low in other regions around the world. No way we can price-match everything.

I am to that why everyone hoping once it get out of beta/ inv program we get that deal to .
For the 10mph thing here how to get above it.
  • In-motion use is not allowed with the "Mini Roam" service plan.
    • Users seeking in-motion functionality under 10 MPH can upgrade to Mobile Priority, but do so at your own risk.

I fine with the static usage, the size is the primary benefit for me. And the internal wifi

i don't mind the 599 price ya it's high it's the 2 plans and cant cancel at anytime like you could with the regular one. Plus you need the new Mobile Priority + the other plan just to us it while motion. which no one knows what the plan cost yet it's not live but 150$ month cant cancel at any time and you only have the mini not the regular one. It makes no since to buy the mini that step price just for Wi-Fi .

Agree with you. Not fair. Elon is taking advantage of its fans.

I have Gen 1 Starlink at home. I was “invited” to try this for the special introductory price of $599, with the note that prices should come down later on. So why shouldn’t I just wait until later on?

I can think of a few neat use cases but I don’t do enough camping to make a mobile-but-only-works-stationary unit worth it for me.
