I am looking to upgrade the speakers and overall sound system. I will start with the dash speakers and continue the process until it sounds decent and is loud enough to hear with the top off.

The speakers are mounted with 7mm screws and the grills are held by metal clips. Didnā€™t take much persuasion, just use small tools and go slow.

Are you replacing with marine-grade/waterproof speakers?
No, they are well protected on the dash. I decided to go with some Infinity 4" coax speakers. I ordered the Ford speaker plug adapters too. They should just fit depth wise and they were 3ohm (factory is 4ohm) and 92DB sensitivity, so they make a silk purse from a sows ear with the factory electronics. If they sound decent and produce a bit more volume, I may try replacing the rest of the speakers before I add an amp. I will update when I get them installed. Heading to Off-Raodeo this weekend, so it will be next week.

Mind posting links to the gear you use along the way, including the adapters?
I couldnā€™t find the factory speaker adaptors but I just cut the wires leaving enough length in case I wanted to splice them back in.

How do the Focal's sound? did you also replace the 6.5 kick panels with Focals?

Curious on how the focals and the infinities sound. The 92db rating on the infinities should help out quite a big from an output standpoint. Much more efficient compared to most that size. I was also thinking about ordering the infinities.

OP- did the speaker wire adapter work or did you need to cut and splice?

Anyone know about the B&O system amp? Are there pre-outs from the head unit that you could switch out to a better amp or is this proprietary? I know you can do a high\low converter for RCA, but that can be a pain and induce sound issues. (from previous experience)

Well, the Infinity 4ā€ ā€œReference Series ā€œ sound more clear. They have slightly more volume and fuller overall range. I didnā€™t expect much additional bass and was not surprised there. My goal was to get enough volume and clarity to listen with the top off without getting agitated. I will let you know if it meets that goal after the weekend.

Note- I did need to cut and splice. The factory wires had enough to length to leave good pigtails on the factory plugs to reuse them if needed.

Well, I have been driving around, top off and on and listening to the stereo. It definitely was worth the $60 and 1hr. of time. It is listenable now at all speeds and much less annoying. That being said, I see a small 4 channel amp and subwoofer in the passenger side roll bar area in my future. I don't think replacing the other 4 speakers will provide enough incremental difference to make the stereo sound "good".
