In another thread, I suggested the idea of those of us in the NC/SC area meeting on a weekend for a cookout/trailrun at Uwharrie National Park (a,k,a, URE) once enough of us get our Broncos. It would be great to meet, have some fun, and enjoy a day on the trails.

I know most of us don't have build dates yet so I don't want to pick a date just yet for the "Broncos@URE Day", but wanted to see how much interest there was, and how many are experienced vs. newbies to off-highway trail riding to determine the need to post a complete FAQ.

For those who are new, here's a few thoughts:
1. You do need to buy an OHV trail pass. $5 for a day pass, $30 for season pass (Trails close Dec. 15th, and on bad weather days).
2. The Outpost does have a grill for those who want to buy a hot breakfast/lunch (short-order grill). And you can get passes there, too.
3. You need to have some basic recovery equipment (tow strap, gloves, toolkit, at a minimum).
4. You will also need a radio (CB,. FRS, HAM, etc.) as there is little to no cell signal in many areas and will need to talk to your group. CBs are cheap and easy.
5. As this is a national park, no alcohol is allowed inside the park.

If enough interest is here, we could also rent a campsite and have a cookout of our own where everyone signs up to bring something so no one person has a hefty food bill :)

If you are interested, then in your reply I'd ask you to include the following:
1. Your config (doors/trim level) and build date if you know it.
2. Have you been offroading before?
3. Have you been on the OHV trails at URE before?
4. What kind of radio do you have?
5. Would you be interested in a campsite cookout as well?

Nice job putting this together 😎
~No build date/VIN
~4 door Badlands SAS 2.7
~Have been to URE several times in my old 06’ Power Wagon. Ran Daniel with that truck on 37s. Did get body damage
~Will probably run a handheld CB or handheld marine VHF radio
~Would be interested in a campsite cookout

I’d love to do an October/early November run assuming I get my Bronco before then. And then another run next spring (May or so).

I’m planning on running Dutch John, Dicky Bell and Daniel. Easier trails too, but those 3 are a must do for me.

Absolutely. 1000% yes.
They should move the off-rodeo from the contested (cancelled?) Vermont locale to URE or Tellico!

2. Have you been offroading before? Not in years. Mainly mud/trails. no rock climbing.
3. Have you been on the OHV trails at URE before? Light-duty trails in a buddy's Jeep in 2002.
4. What kind of radio do you have? None currently
5. Would you be interested in a campsite cookout as well? Absolutely. I'll help however I can to get this going.

Nice to see this thread growing :) I am tracking in an Excel spreadsheet.

I agree on the Fall/Spring dates - Not too hot, not too cold.

From my past experiences, different people like different radio types, so I thought I'd ask in case we need to group by radio type. I know some who prefer GMRS radios with privacy code support to limit chat to their group, however, most times I went to URE, the group I was with used CBs.
For recommendations, I often suggest a Uniden PRO401HH handheld for $50 for CB since its cheaper than the Midland 75-822 handheld and works in a pinch unless you want to go for the full mounted radio+antenna option, or pretty much any brand radio that has GMRS support with privacy code support.

For those like me that aren't very experienced in off roading, but still want to have fun, there are trails in Uhwarrie like "Wolf's Den", and "Falls Dam" that are easy drives. No need for winches, and recovery gear. And for a novice, they are still quite fun.

It looks like my Bronco will be in late '22. That is if the damn chip shortage, and other crap clears up. Put me in anyway. There may be other meet ups we can attend.

4dr OBX with no build date in sight
Novice off roader
Been to Uhwarrie, and heading back Tuesday if Saturday's rain doesn't muck up the trails too bad.
No radio, but I do love to eat. :)

I usually head back to Wilmington 2x a year and see it's only a 3 hour drive to URE.

1. Your config (doors/trim level) and build date if you know it.
4DR Badlands Sasquatch

2. Have you been offroading before?
Yes

3. Have you been on the OHV trails at URE before?
No

4. What kind of radio do you have?
CB. Will probably get a GMRS. Studied for HAM a few times, but never scheduled a test.

5. Would you be interested in a campsite cookout as well?
Possibly, but I wouldn't torture anyone with my cooking! May end up being a day trip for me, depending on passengers.
