USPS announces the LLV replacement

If any of y’all are vehicle dorks like me, you may have been following this competition.

USPS just announced they’re going with Oshkosh Defense for the NGDV.

It’s so ugly, you know it must do the job well.

They will be delivered with a mix of ICE and electric powertrains that can be upgraded over their life... and aside from all the extra safety features, they finally have AC!

Under the contract’s initial $482 million investment, Oshkosh Defense will finalize the production design of the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV) — a purpose-built, right-hand-drive vehicle for mail and package delivery — and will assemble 50,000 to 165,000 of them over 10 years. The vehicles will be equipped with either fuel-efficient internal combustion engines or battery electric powertrains and can be retrofitted to keep pace with advances in electric vehicle technologies. The initial investment includes plant tooling and build-out for the U.S. manufacturing facility where final vehicle assembly will occur.

Giant 9ft by 9ft nearly vertical windshield...no problem.

Calls investment manager....put it all in whatever company is making that windshield glass...

It’s hideous but I appreciate their forward thinking approach of being able to upgrade the car for future use. As opposed to just recycling them through and getting a new one.
