Had anyone thought about or seen an antenna for a CB yet? I hope to participate in some organized rides and I think CB’s remain a popular way to stay in contact. With all the aluminum, this could present a challenge!

Shepard to lost sheep

Shepard to lost sheep, you got your ears on?
Back in high school that was the way all my buds and I kept in contact when we were out and about. I know- I am old. No cell phones back then.

Certainly thinking about it for this new rig though. I don't have any recommendations but will be interested to see what people share.

When I lived in WA we used marine radios in the back country when we snowmobiled. Whistler and the Canadian montains gave a significant pucker factor in anything less than ideal weather. Yes they were illegal, but they had pretty good range :) I guess FRS would work in most line of sight vehicle groups, but they really struggle as soon as you get anything between transmitter and receiver. A CB isn't much better, but the antennas can get you higher and the type and gain profile can help with geography challenges slightly too.

I was wondering where to mount an antenna too. There are mounting points all over the Bronco, but none that I've seen that would be useful for this.

As much as I love my old citizens band, most of the guys I’m wheeling with are all running GMRS now. Cross communication with HAM and FRS (walkie talkie). $70 for a 10 year license, covers your whole family and just pay & play, no test.

my buddy has his right on his cowl for the GMRS, barely visible from inside vehicle. Only a couple inches tall and way better reception than the CBs.

From memory, Aluminim will not act as a ground plane either. At a minimum you need to ground the mount. Worse case, run it to whatever grounding post is available, but that could be inconvenient from the potential mounting spot.

I have a GMRS license and some handhelds but I still want a CB lol

Haven't taken my Ham test yet but will when things get back to normal

I will use whatever is popular and works. The old process for a licsensce was a PITA, sounds easier now.
