this.@timhood In reverse you are powering with the back sides of the ring and pinion gears. The way they are cut makes them not as strong in reverse. This is powering through the "coast side" of the gears. If this is really significant or not is debatable and probably only makes a difference with big tires and huge horsepower.
And since you are applying excessive torque to the gear because you are pulling on a stuck vehicle, that's the no no.
Now if you good with a snatch strap, you can go it because you are only using the momentum you gain.....that's another class, The Snatch Strap and You, Level 2.
