Update to this post to actually add context.

I headed out Mt. Baker Highway and turned off at Mosquito Lake. Normally I avoid any location with mosquito in the name but being December I thought the risks of mosquitoes was going to be low.

I had scouted a route via onXoffroad to go along the Middle Fork of the Nooksack River.

I thought this might give me some views of Baker but it was too close to the base to see anything. Also there were too many trees. :p

There were many creeks and streams and waterfalls along the route. The road was pretty smooth but plenty of potholes.

Then I headed back to the Baker Mtn Highway and up to the ski area. That’s a windy road. The views at Picture Lake are spectacular. Well worth the drive.

I won’t have more time to explore Baker this visit but perhaps in the future.

Great pictures, what road did you head up in those pics? I have only been on the Baker Lake side of the mountain in my exploring, haven't came in from Mt Baker hwy yet.

Updated original post with actual information.

Absolutely go up to Picture Lake.

And I’ll check out Baker Lake the next time I’m here.

Looks familiar. I've done some kokanee fishing at Baker lake. I'm sure I've stomped around those grounds a bit.

Looked like a fun trip!

Nice trip! I'd love to explore some trails around there next time somebody is in the area. Was the smaller lake next to Picture Lake frozen over yet? It was a great sledding area in January.

The amount of snow up at Artist Point in early summer after they open the road is impressive.

Both lakes were covered in snow. I believe people were sledding onto Highwood Lake.
