Guess who builds VW new pickup, and who might have a hand in a Scout SUV if they opt for a proper body on frame off-roader

Exciting! Although I understand it would require a new plant?

Ford will be making the 2nd gen VW Amarok in South Africa, Ford and VW have joint agreements in place for a few years now for shared development, technology, and production of primarly EVs and Self Driving stuff. I would be zero percent surprised to find that VW resurecting the Scout brand leans heavily on Fords Ranger and Bronco DNA.

Very interesting, But I doubt it will have any shared parts with the Ranger/Bronco platform, despite the Amarok relationship.

I could see Ford and VW teaming up on a new platform, or something closer to the Maverick as a basis, But I hope not.

In either case, the Scout name is going to be hard to live up to, I'm not sure I could temper my expectations enough for them to ever have a chance of meeting them!

I mean, the way the bronco is built, you could make a convincing Scout by just swaping all the bolt on body panels and a different roof, the A pillar and windshield would be the only original Bronco exterior you would see

And that is precisely what I'm afraid of! If they just badge engineer a Bronco into a Scout, then it'll just dilute the market. I suppose if Ford never comes out with a competing electric Bronco, That would give brand separation, But it needs to be differentiated in other ways to, If it's going to be a "Scout"..

I can not see Ford sharing the Bronco with another brand... ugh the thought. I can see them creating an all electric version though which could be really cool. I realize Ford has shared models before, but I hope the new leadership does not see that as a viable option for growth.

Did anybody bother to read through the article? VW is targeting C Segment or smaller Trucks like the Maverick and most likely the Bronco Sport for the SUV.

Scout? They could have called it the Rabbit Pickup FWIW.

The Scout 80/800, If built today, would probably be C-Segment (Which is a European classification, not US), The Wrangler is considered a "D -Segment" SUV now in Europe. I don't think the Segment specifies anything about the construction of the vehicle though, you can make a Compact Body on Frame vehicle....

As I still have my 1980 IH Scout II Diesel, I'll be placing an order.

I wonder if @Ford Motor Company will be able to ship my DirtMountain Bronco by the time VW launches the Scout.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm. They must stick to the early version.

There is a company that has already created an EV scout. Note the name of the company and the obvious brand logo on the steering wheel - Equus is latin for horse and they use a horse brand (though not bucking like the Bronco). Then note the URL blatantly using 'Scout' and the obvious design elements of the Scout II.

A horse by another name...
