Want a 2022 model. Reserve now, or wait?

What I'd like to do is buy a 2022 model late this year. I know current reservations are for 2021 - though by the sounds of things, it'd end up being a 2022 model anyway at this point.
Does it make any sense to put in reservation NOW, or wait awhile?

No one will be buying a 2022 model late this year. The first deliveries will be next year. You can opt to walk-in to your dealer to place an order, but you will be at the end their line after reservation holders. You best bet is to put in a reservation, but temper your expectations for delivery. You likely won't see your Bronco until the Q3 CY22.

Same here. I made a reservation last week and my selected dealer conacted me, I told him I want the 22 and realize Ford is so backed up, '22 is my only option as a late reservation holder anyway.

But I'm wondering, if the dealer is willing to convert my reservation to a "MY21" order, would converting now knowing it'll result in an overflow order give be a better spot in the queue for 2022?

No. Your reservation timestamp will dictate this.

So in other words, you're just as well-off waiting to order an ACTUAL 2022 model (when order info comes out), rather than place an order before then - 'supposedly' for a 2021 model (that will end up being 2022 model anyway)...? So there's no benefit to ordering as soon as possible, right? Reserve now, yes. Order ASAP, not so much.
That's how I'm reading it, but let me know.

Yes they have. You are to advise your dealer than you want to wait until MY22 and your time-stamp will carry over to that model year's production beginning in December.

Reserve and tell your dealer NOT to convert...it has no affect on them if the reservation just sits in the system
