Called the dealer again today - nothing. So called the number on the order - they called the dealer and magically it had been there on the receiving dock for over a week. Apparently it didn’t have a name or order info or anything on it…

so I got it home, hope to install this weekend

That's why I suggested people follow-up with their dealer (better to do it in person as it is easy to dismiss a caller).

One would think that simple eCommerce wouldn't be this hard in 2024.

One aspect that is also troublesome is that the dealer has no visibility of an order placed by a customer online. Items show up or they don't.

In my case - you can’t assume a competent Receiving department. My dealer knew what I was looking for and still sat on it. You aren’t wrong though.

it’s basically turned the Ford online store to “only if the deal is so good I’m willing to pull out my hair” type purchases.

Looks like the disclaimer about originally having a capable bumper is software related.
I put a mod bumper on a while ago. While trying to use frds to program the RCM for the winch i get a incorrect lineage error.
I even tried to set a different vin in the BCM with forscan without any luck.

what needs to be programed with the capable bumper and why? Is it just the camera that is the problem? I am relocating my camera and park sensors

I don’t think any programming is needed if you still have a capable bumper.

The programming in the instructions is to update the Restraint Control Module(RCM), which controls the airbags.

The issue here is that update only works if you have a modular bumper that is properly programmed.

When i swapped to a modular bumper from a capable bumper, i did specific programming that updated the RCM. Ford clearly has different firmwares for the RCM based on bumper type. The modular bumper with winch is another RCM variation.

So if you still have a capable bumper I don’t see anything to program since the firmware associated with the winch is specific to to modular bumper. If you could somehow side load it it wouldn’t be appropriate for your setup anyway.

You can side load it but it's more of a cover your ass move by Ford. None of the aftermarket winch mounts have a need for reprogramming (that I know of).

Oh for sure. If I didn't have a capable bumper I would do the software change just cause.

Picked up mine yesterday. Is the kit supposed to come with both winch hooks? I got both fairleads. I didn't open the box with the mount in it as I plan to sell it and only use the winch and the Warn fairlead.
