I just finished up a horrible experience with my ’23 WT. Hit some puddles last week and all of a sudden I lost power, engine wouldn’t idle w/o pressing the gas pedal and the dash lights were blinking like crazy (collision, wrench, check engine, to name a few). I nursed it home and it smelled as if there was electrical components burning so left it outside for a while. After it cooled down, I started it and it ran fine but still had the Engine Light illuminated. Took it to the dealer and they naturally couldn’t find anything wrong but stated they couldn’t perform much troubleshooting because of aftermarket parts installed. I have 4,141 miles on it now, after the dealer drove it, and the check engine light is no longer illuminated. My modifications are: Burger CAI, Turbosmart BOV, Oil catch can and CVF exhaust (flange back w/OEM Cats). Mods have been installed for 11 months with no issues. The dealer charged me a $175 diagnostic fee which I feel is BS since it’s under “warranty” which the dealer says they won’t honor because of the aftermarket parts- only Ford performance parts are honored for warranty work/claims. I cannot express how disappointed I am with Ford. After calling Ford customer relations, they told me they’d touch base with the dealer and the dealer would reply back. I feel like I’m getting jerked around and find it hard to believe that puddles and rain would take out my “off road” vehicle, which I’ve never had issues with before. Has anyone else had these issues? Any recommendations?

Dealer says it was error free, which I cannot believe but cannot prove since I wasn’t with it for the 3 days they had it. Check Engine light was on when I left it and off when I picked it up. I’m pretty furious and disappointed with Ford...

Of course they aren't going to warrantee anything that could be affected by aftermarket parts, pretty much a given.

It would have been so easy to take those aftermarket parts off BEFORE taking it in.
But let me get this straight. You no longer have a problem but you're furious at Ford because the dealership won't fix the problem, they can't replicate, for free?

Yeah idk. Personally I doubt it had anything to do with the modifications, but proving it is another thing I guess.

Just remember, they have to prove that what you did actually caused the concern or failure. Unless your air filter is sopping wet and there is water in the motor that's a different story.

I have been in court before with one of my old dealers over an old 6.0 PSD to date myself. Tuner in the seat and blown motor. We lost as we could not directly prove directly the tuner is what assisted the engine in blowing. I even remember when Ford would send inspectors out and would see a tuner in the seat and look the other way. We the dealer unfortunately have to prove what you did caused the failure in the end.

I wouldn't have charged you the $175 and I would have internaled the RO so you wouldn't get a survey...those cost us more than the buck-75!

Thanks much. I appreciate the post. I hope others in the group here see what they could be up against if they mod their Bronco under warranty. Shouldn’t be this hard and I’m more frustrated that the dealer lied to me and said they found no error codes. Thanks agin for your post.

I heard Cold air intake and hitting puddles.

These 2 don't go well, prob sucked water in and the sensor went wacky.
