Looks like a great location for the pump and inlet/outlets.

I'm a little confused about where the water source is and what the two connections do.

It's, I think, in the best spot. Up out of harms way with easy access. The outlet behind the round flap is a spring coupling outlet like an air hose but for water. I have a 20 ft. coiled hose for that with a spray nozzle, and the garden hose fitting is for either the 20 liter water bladder I have for the roof connected with a short hose or a small water heater/pump combo we have. Either one works great for a quick shower, washing dishes or the front window or hosing of mud.
