Not saying it’s the case here but studies have shown Wikipedia is around 94% accurate.

The issue is the ability to change info, screen shot it, then it gets changed back.
I'm gonna have to pull rank on you right here and disallow wiki as a reputable source for anything other than entertainment. All 12th graders know this.

Historically, Ford put a modified Pinto transmission in the first gen Explorer!
Just saying...lol
The first explorer had a manual 3 speed??

I actually had a Pinto with a manual 3 speed. That was the worst car I have ever driven.

Fair enough.

My work on my doctorate, says otherwise. 🤷

After reading through All of these pages, my basic thoughts are:

- Bean Counters overruled Engineering if a "minimum" acceptable transmission is being used. These Bean Counters tend to Only Look and what the Bottom Line (Dollar Wise) is for producing something. They seldom factor in the Warranty and Loss of Business due to getting a black eye from widespread warranty issues. But it's not 100% the Bean Counter's fault. Upper Management choose the path and the Bean Counters are just there to try to keep cost to what Upper Management wants.

If FoMoCo allows a "minimum" acceptable transmission (and other components) to be used in the Bronco, knowing full well that a select few enthusiast will do upgrades to their Broncos that can easily surpass a "minimum" acceptable transmission (and other components), FoMoCo will more than likely loose way more $$$'s than if a transmission (and other components) of a more that "minimum" acceptable design would have been installed to start with.

The Explorer had a A4LD which is an automatic. It's a modified version of the C3 (Pinto uses this) with an overdrive gear. The manual was actually a 5 speed. I had a first gen explorer with the A4LD, that transmission grenaded at 120k.

I'm not confident in any ten speed to be honest. I have a 2018 f150 5.0 10r80 work truck with 70k miles and it shifts like absolute crap, my 2018 expedition 3.5 10r80 shutters and also shifts kinda rough with 20k miles. My 2020 f250 tremor 6.7 has a CSP to get its 10r140 rebuilt by the dealer🤮 it sometimes refuses to up shift and also downshifts rough. Just my experiences with the 10 speed family.

As an ST owner with one trans under his belt I can tell you it was broken internal parts not due to heating, but torque.

Even with Level 10 upgraded transmissions the factory flex plate shreds and no upgraded ones are available yet.

Will the transmission be a problem for folks who remain stock, even with Squatch? Likely not.
But for folks who tune, add exhausts, intercooler, run E85….yeah the stock trans rated for stock TQ is a bad combo.
So I am guessing that the choice to go with the 10R60 is strictly a cost savings option. This is disappointing considering it should be a relatively heavy duty off road vehicle. I am still buying the Bronco, just sort of let down on this aspect.

Jeep used the 4 speed Pinto trans in my 81 CJ-5. Loved to jump out of 2nd gear under load

I think you're all wrong... originally it was the 10r60 which is why it was free in build and price. Then they switched to 10r80 and charged for it... Stay thirsty my friends...
Nah this isn't what happened but, why not have another conspiracy idea? 😂

Was doing a Vin Search on 1FMEE5BP2MLA60182 -
I came across this on several dealers sites. It shows the Transmission order codes.
Why does it show three different Autos 99H&44T , 99P&44T & 44T ?

  • Drivetrain - Four Wheel Drive
  • Trans Order Code - 44T (99H&44T), 44T (99P&44T), 44T (44T), 44Q
  • Trans Type - 10 (99H&44T), 10 (99P&44T), 10 (44T), 7
  • Trans Description Cont. - Automatic w/OD (99H&44T), Automatic w/OD (99P&44T), Automatic w/OD (44T), Manual w/OD

10 AT for 2.3L
10 AT for 2.7L
7 MT for 2.3L

The 2.3L & 2.7L don't share the same transmission bolt-up pattern, hence two different AT's.
If they did carry the same bolt pattern, the 7MT would mate to the 2.7L, but it doesn't.

I think we need to get confirmation from Ford on this. The door stickers of Bronco demo units show a transmission code of "T". The OP showed a table of transmission codes from a 2020 Explorer. On the Explorer table, a T code indicates the 10R60 transmission. However, the F-150's 10R80 tranny has a code designation of "G" and the Ranger's 10R80 has a code designation of "U". So these codes change depending on the model. Is it possible that a "T" code for a Bronco does indeed indicate a 10R80 tranny? How can we find out for sure? My dealer doesn't know...:cautious:

I figured it might be something like that but why list the third as just 44T and then go on the list all three gear ratios ?
