This is dumb. How much cheaper can the 10R60 be than the 80? Really Ford? That's where you're going to pinch pennies?

This must have been a semi-recent decision that Ford has not yet made a publicly official. Before the reveal when we were getting Bronco R teasers, an engineer specifically said the bronco R has an off the shelf powertrain identical to what the production Bronco would be. He specifically said 10R80.

Am I ignorant and naive? Probably.

for yearsI subscribed to Automobile, Road and Track, Car and Driver and Motor Trend.

I feel like when new cars were announced but not yet for sale, there was more solid info publicized than seems to be left to theorize by us, when we are so deep into the ordering process.

Do you have a source for this? It seems like until this morning we all assumed 10r80 for both, but there's only been evidence put forward for the 10r60.

How does this even work? Doesn’t the torque in a stock 2.7 exceed the torque rating of the 60?

Dang... this could seriously be a deal-breaker for me. I plan on using our Bronco to tow frequently up to 3,000 lb. I feel the 2.7 is a very capable engine. But if the transmission is already borderline, that kind of kills my confidence. My wife and I were ready to pull the trigger on a Jeep Wrangler Diesel back in July before the Bronco was announced. Maybe I need to start reconsidering that option.

One of the biggest arguments for the Bronco was that the engine and transmission were already proven in the F-150. But now, this appears to not be the case.

This SOP for Ford, using "just enough" transmission. It's more unusual that the Ranger has the 80 than that the Bronco does not.
