That saying came from the man that destroyed the Middle class. Reagan
I guess if moving a whole lot of them from middle to upper class is what you mean by “destroyed”, then I could accept that. I realize someone who says something like that would prefer that everyone be equally poor, than have self determined outcomes based on how hard you work and what decisions you make. A man who you claim “destroyed” the largest voting block won 49 states after the first term...amazing! We need someone else in a bad way to “destroy” it again...no one else has ever facilitated that much prosperity and opportunity in the history of man.

Well misinformed......there were more millionaires made in the 90s than in the 80s. Unions made the middle class and Reagan started the Mass decline in membership. The first president to ever tax SSI benifits to pay for his tax cuts for the wealthy. He didn't make new millionaires......he just made them richer with our tax money.

Reagan’s economic policies, along with his party at the time, including deregulation and trickle down, basically split the middle class into two camps.

A percentage of the middle class moved to the upper class and as a result the total percentage of the population in the upper class increased under Reagan.

A larger chunk of the middle class were actually eventually relegated to the lower class. On a whole, middle class wages and earnings stagnated during this time and they stopped keeping up with inflation.

We can point to an increase in the upper class thanks to Reagan, but on a whole, the income wealth under trickle down and deregulation got heavily screwed towards the upper class. The result was more people find themselves closer to financial hardship under these policies because housing, food, transportation, etc costs have outpaced the increase in middle and lower class wages.

So, if you had the means to leverage these economic policy changes, it became easier to earn more money. If you did not have the means to leverage, then you fell further and further behind.

I mean, at least that’s what the data shows.

Whether this is a “success” in economic policy is a matter of opinion... one I’m definitely not going to try to argue with anyone about... but I think it’s important to appreciate exactly what has happened over the past 40 years.

If unemployment, which is designed to provide the bare minimum a person needs to not starve or be homeless, pays more than an actual private sector job.... maybe the problem isn’t the existence of unemployment.
I'd maybe agree with that statement prior to the extra Federal payments if $400-$600 per week we are seeing currently. Point being current UC is not a "bare minimum" unless we consider $45k to $60k per year bare minimum. As a small business owner.... I never thought small business would be made to compete with the government to keep people employed at wages probably 4-5 times the federal poverty level.

My earlier point was it's pretty apparent there are plenty of people that would take $50k to sit at home vs. working and making even $60 or $70k. Fair enough if others dont agree but to believe people dont do this simple math is naive. Reports of people wanting to be laid off is not uncommon these days. I've seen myself from employees that have worked happily for me for 15+ years.

Okay now I've said my opinion as well so back to the great Bronco talk.

On a side note :)
Do we know specifically what the hard top production issues have been with Webasto?

COVID and man/woman power?
New equipment issues?
Quality?
Engineering?

Truth Ashley. This is happening everywhere.
It’s not good.
You don't get unemployment if you get fired...........I am an employer, I say this from experience.

I think the point was people are hoping to get laid off related to COVID impacts or slowdowns. In that case they are not terminated for cause and would be eligible for UC.

In NY you could refuse to go back to work if your excuse was that you were "afraid of the Rona", and still collect. Not a thing your employer could do about it. People used the plandemic as an excuse to stay home and get paid. A lot of people abused the system, and still are. Disgraceful what this country has turned into.

I’m a firefighter, when I tested to get on in the 90s there were over 600 applicants, we just offered the test last month and had 42....

I feel people would rather sit on their asses and not work...it’s a sad state of affairs..
