A couple of months ago like many folks here I upgraded the sound system using the Kicker 200.4. I performed the Forscan changes described in the stereo upgrade thread.
I changed out all of the speakers. All of the 4" speakers were switched out with JL C2-400x. They are pretty good speakers but honestly have a little trouble when pushed hard with the amp trying to produce lower frequencies. The kick panel speakers were replaced with JL C2-650. These performed flawlessly.
I actually hooked the dash speakers up in front of the input to the amp so they were just fed from the stereo. This keeps them from being 'over-driven'.
I ran the initial Kicker Key setup and ran it that way for a month or so. Then I decided to add bass blockers to the rear speakers to help deal with the problem the 4" rear speakers were having reproducing lower frequencies. I did not rerun the Kicker Key setup again afterwards. Everything sounded fine.
After a couple of weeks the rear speakers sounded anemic, just really high frequencies. I gave in and ordered the Mabbett pods and JL C2-650 speakers to replace the 4" speakers. After installing them the new larger speakers still sounded anemic.
At the risk of thinking the speakers were defective I checked them with another source, they were fine.
Taking a test speaker I checked the input to the amp and it sounded ok meaning the Forscan settings were good. So the I checked the output of the amp and it sounded bad. The amp output was the problem.
I reran the Kicker Key setup and everything sounds great now.
The only thing I can think that happened is changing the impedance, by adding the bass blockers to the rear speakers, over time, changed the output frequencies of the amplifier output. I would never expect this to happen. As an electrician I have learned that just about anything is possible when dealing with electronic devices.
I just thought posting this this may help someone someday if they ever run into weird frequency outputs from a Kicker Key amplifier. Just run the setup again before you do a bunch of other troubleshooting.
