I have not had a CB in 20 years, but I want to put one in my new Raptor. I’m curious what’s happened in 20 years and what the latest and greatest is and what everyone is using and are you happy with it. Midland has an antenna called the ghost that’s only 3.5 inches tall. Does this really work? I was always told the antenna needs to be above the roof line to get a quality signal. Anyone using this antenna that can comment would be great! Thanks for any input.

Easy: grab a couple GMRS handhelds off of Amazon.
Harder: do the above and get your ham tech license and install a dual band ham radio.

I prefer a UHF/VHF radio for its increased power, able to use any frequency, and versatility.

My ZR2 has a Kenwood TM-V71a
My Bronco has a Yaesu FTMXDR

Both are paired with a Comet SBB2NMO dual band antenna.

I'm pretty sure everyone is going to GMRS instead of CB these days.
Yep, GMRS is the go to these days however a CB is still the choice of communication for logging trucks...at least up here in Maine. These guys haul ass and have the right of way. It's nice to have a CB to monitor chatter as most communicate their location with other trucks. Nothing quite like meeting a loaded tractor trailer on a blind corner going 45-50mph.

Still waiting on our Braptor but we have use a hand held GMRS or CB as needed when off-roading. The hand held (Midland) CB can be connected to an external CB antennae mounted on the back of our Jeep. CB and GMRS antennas are not interchangeable.

So no one has tried the Midland Ghost antennae? Speak up if you have. I’m curious how it does compared to an antennae that sticks up above the roof line.

I ordered 2 of the Midland MXT275VP4 Micro Bundles this morning. It comes with the Ghost Ant. Hoping to install it all this weekend on both of the Broncos. It is supposed to be better as far as power. I will try to post results after.

The great thing about CB's is that the channels are wide open.

The bad thing about CB's is that the channels are wide open because almost no one uses them any more ;)

I have a ghost sitting in my garage right now. It is an OK antenna, but a compromise antenna. I used it as rain cap antenna for running around town and fitting in the garage at one point when I ran GMRS. The SWR was very picky and took a bit to find a location it liked. Bottom line, if its all you can do due to size, go for it. Think of it like a rubber ducky. Or do best of both worlds and swap it out when more reach is needed.

I am using both GMRS and CB this is the CB I went with a pre made antenna cable Pre made cable. I then used a NMO to 3/8-24 NMO to 3/8 adaptor with a 3 foot Fire Stick antenna. I used this mount on the bottom hinge plate.

For the GMRS I bought the Midland along with the Ghost Antenna. I used this mount to attach it to the right front fender.

I installed the CB behind the glove box for now. I am going to install it under the console when I get a chance.

I'd guess not well with a CB.

I just read the spec's on the Ghost Ant. It is rated at 465 MHZ. CB's are in the 26 to 27 MHZ band. The Ghost Ant will not work on a CB. It is for GMRS only.
