Dudes (and dude-ettes),
I am a bit torn here. I have wanted a Jeep for so many years I cant even remember. It's just been very hard with kids, a pontoon boat, and a bunch of snowmobiles. I need to tow quite a bit of weight 6-10 times a year, and have been traveling to grandparents with two kids and a dog for over 16 years now.

Now with the kids getting older, driving themselves and other things that make us old people more independent, I am finally back to thinking about an open-air 4x4.

I currently drive a 2012 suburban (XL). It does everything I need from a family-hauling and snowmobile towing perspective. It's getting old, rusting, and needs little things here and there. However, overall, it's still a very comfortable and reliable vehicle.

If I end up keeping the suburban for the occasional towing and hauling job, do I go with a new bronco (Badlands + Sasquatch), or do I go with an old(er) Jeep and build up what I want?

Important to consider... I don't like to keep things clean, but I do like technology. I would go with vinyl seats and a rubber floor no questions asked! I would also keep the top off as much as I could. I wouldn't was more than 6 times a year.

Have fun preaching to me! I'm excited to see your opinions.

I considered building my YJ instead of a Bronco. In the end I wanted something more daily-able that would be done sooner. Maybe.

to be honest with you, in terms of reliabilty, the bronco will be under warranty,
also if you getting the Badlands, just go for mid or lux package since you like tech,
dont go sasquatch since the badlands has its unique lift compared to lower trims and 33 inch tires

So you are considering a brand new Bronco for using it 6 times a year? Did I get that question correct?

Get the Jeep an build it the way you want. Get wet okole for the seat covers. cancel your reservation and let us daily driver Broncos enjoy it about 359 times more a year than you would.

No, sorry, I need a big tow vehicle 6-10 times a year. I meant to say I only wash my cars 6 times a year. The topless 4x4 will be driven nearly every day depending on conditions, but it won't be my ONLY car.

I will also wheel occasionally as time permits. I don't want to care about dirt, scratches, etc.... But for a kick-butt Bronco, I could treat it a bit nicer.. :)

Moneywise you could get a older jeep throw cash at it and have a killer fun ride and be light years cheaper than a bronco?
I myself am messed up im going to have both lol.

What do you consider an older Jeep? TJ? JK?

Would you pay cash for the Jeep or would you finance it?

If I wanted an older toy, I'd either get a CJ or YJ. Something old enough to where it doesn't bother you if it gets rained in but still reliable enough to not worry about it.

I was planning on building a JK up, but then learned about the Bronco. It was a no brainer for me - skip the build and go with the Bronco. Here's a short list of my reasons.

I don't have to do the build (may be fun for some, but I'd rather just buy it)
Ford powertrain much more reliable than a Jeep (in my opinion)
Marine grade vinyl
Wash out floor / drain plugs
Mirrors mounted to the body
Half doors - much lighter to remove and easier to store
4 piece hard top - hopefully no winch / pulley system needed to remove the top
It will be new and unique!

If you've got to put the doors / top on and off regularly don't underestimate the value of the doors, mirrors, and top!!

Sounds like you'll be having fun whatever you decide!

Oh, and I do plan on keeping my 98 TJ - it's just too fun.

Edit: Forgot to mention IFS - For a daily driver it should ride a hell of a lot better than a Jeep!

I would want the extra space of a 4-door, so JK. However, if it were just a local bomber, I love the sound of the older jeeps with V8s. My pockets arent deep enough, or maybe I'm too thrifty, to do a JK V8 conversion.

I've been looking at "totaled JKUs" as an option to build back up. Lots of goodies, dont care if it gets scratched or caked with mud..... But I have always LOVED the Bronco since I was in high school working at my buddies dad's bison ranch. The ranch truck was a 72 Bronco.... bone stock. Loved that damn thing!!!!

Id say get a Scrambler, a FSB, or a new Bronco. Get a good southern scrambler and build it up, or a FSB(towing and hauling) with a soft top, or a new one and mod it with towing on mind.

If I were you, I'd go bronco. Personally, if I bought something else at this point, I'd still end up with a bronco as soon as I could lay my mitts on one.

That being said, an older jeep would be fine... in addtion. Haha . Something with an I6 or old AMC v8 would be fun to tool around on, and you probably wouldn't take much of loss if you resell ?‍♀
