Self employed. Health insurance premium is $1597.00 per month. Yes you read that correctly. It actually cost about $27,000 per year once you include the $8,000.00 deductible. They recently removed the income cap for "subsidies" due to covid so the premium dropped to $325.00. Thats temporary though.

Insurance is surprisingly cheap. Havenā€™t received my bronco yet, so I canā€™t give you that info yet. But I got my insurance to quote me on pretty much full coverage. $88CAD/month (roughly $70USD). Not too bad for a 26 yo male near Torontoā€¦

Typical in my neck of the woods is 70/30ā€¦ in that the employer pays 70% of the premiums, the employee 30%.

But itā€™s sooooo expensive, for a family plan itā€™s possible to still be paying almost $900/month out of pocket.

Single person plans are about $300-$400 a month out of pocket. Two person $600-$800.

And then on top of that we still have co-pays and deductibles. So a trip to the ED still costs $500 (on a good plan) out of pocketā€¦ and for medical expenses in general, the individual is expected to pay the first $3,000 for the year, and then insurance picks up the rest after that.

(all these are variables thoughā€¦ the employer negotiates packages with an insurance company, and then the employee may get a choice of thoseā€¦ so some might have very low premiums but huge deductibles, and another vice versaā€¦ it could be possible to get a dirt cheap plan that like covers only ER visits after a $2000 deductible, but not whatever medication you need to takeā€¦ or maybe you pay huge sums of money every month, but will never have a balance on a medical bill)

And insurance only works assuming they donā€™t deny the claim because the hospital you were taken to, or the specialist you needed, was ā€œout of network.ā€

This is why people go bankrupt in the US from medical expensesā€¦ our child was stillborn the year and the bill was over $20,000. We were fortunate enough to be able to pay the $3,000 out of pocket for the experience, with insurance picking up the restā€¦ but if a person doesnā€™t have insurance because they are already in a low wage job, that $20,000 bill could mean the end of everything for themā€¦

In the United States, you are provided an education through High School. You are are provided legal defense if charged with a crime. You are provided a voice in how you are governed through your right to voteā€¦ but if you get sick or injured, even if itā€™s not your fault, youā€™re totally on your own and at the mercy of private companies.

Iā€™d much rather pay steeply for ā€œluxuryā€ items (like automobiles) than saddle everyone with gigantic bills for things they donā€™t have a choice aboutā€¦ but thatā€™s just my opinion.
Holy shit!
Thru my employer, I pay less than $6 a pay cheque for benefits... This would be dental and prescription and eyeglasses. We pay a couple of dollars for a dispensery fee for scripts...
Dental covers $1500 per year.
I could opt for a better, $16 plan and get massage, chiro and sports physio as well.

Oh. Dental? Oral health?

That's not considered "health care" in the United States.... so medical insurance doesn't cover it.

You have to buy separate "dental insurance" here... which is mostly a scam when you actually crunch the numbers. (It's cheaper to pay for cleanings and a filling or two a year out of pocket than what most dental insurance plans cost... and they still have co-pays and deductibles).

Oral health is billed completely differently in the US... by procedure, not by outcome. So whereas an internal medicine doc bills the patient and insurance for assessment and diagnosis, and get's incentivized to keep you healthy.. dentistry bills by procedure... so actually the entire system is incentivized to perform as many procedures over and over again as they can... and not to keep your mouth healthy. That's why we have so many predatory dentists charging for procedures people don't need, while also our oral health in this country is a disaster and people are literally dying from dental infections.

(there are also additional "eye" and "prescription" plans which you can add to your health insurance for additional cost)

I work for Allstate and for my insurance its about $130/month with my 2018 mustang convertible and with the Bronco replacing it my payment goes down to $125/month. So I think the Insurance will be fair but reminder for EVERYONE to get GAP insurance for their broncos.

Wow some of these payments are down right scary! I don't make the income to support those. I have a job- go to work every day and have been working for 46 years and my income has been steadily declining. I peaked in the 80's and 90's. I save, save, scrimp and save to put down as much as I can to have an affordable payment of around 200-300 a month. Plus I have equity in my current vehicles that I will sell or trade as down payment. My ideal payment is 200-300 a month. I am not sure I am going to proceed now that I am bumped into 2022.

What kind of deal are you getting that your Paid price is less than MSRP? Invoice on your rig looks to be about $46.3k which would make your TTL about $3k.

Edit. Odds that this thread will now getting the political lock? Thanks guys.

All i know is my sales tax for Alaska is capped at $350. Doesn't matter the price of the car. Could be a $250,000 Lambo or a $1500 POS, all $350. Before i retire from AD i need to buy something crazy just to take advantage of being a resident of AK before i no longer am allowed (once no longer AD, you have to change residencies to the state you reside in).

Lots of under MSRP deals advertised on the forum... actually, I think they're all even less than Invoice.

My deal is $2,000 under Invoice, which I think works out to almost $4k under MSRP

I received Z-Plan pricing through my uncle. The sticker was $38,500 before destination and other fees brought it closer to $40K. After the Z-Plan discount I think the total amount was $37,700. I put down nothing and financed for 84 months at 3.49% since I wanted the lowest payment possible. Payment is $506 month. Insurance is about $1K a year.

Yeah, I helped negotiate the under invoice deal for us down here in Texas, I understand how it works.

My point was, that his deal would have to be significantly under invoice to have an out the door price less than sticker by the time you figured in TTL. And being that AutoNation is a no haggle dealership, I was interested in the details. Possibly has something to do with being an active duty military purchase? Maybe he will answer and we won't have to assume details.

Ah. I see.

Iā€™m assuming TTL is ā€œtax, titleā€, andā€¦ something? Registration?

In my state tax is 6.5% on whatever the purchase price was, which is vehicle cost - trade in value. Title and registration is another $40 in fees.

It would be very easy to have an out the door price less than MSRP depending on the deal under invoice and the value of the trade.
