Why are we picking such modern cars to compare the Bronco to?

Let's at least go back to a 6 volt car or one with vacuum locks, wipers, kick down and advance!
Or way back to the car in the Flintstones. Due to GVWR if you take either to a drive-in like Sonic, they will flip over...

Didn't the 64.5 have no reverse lights?
Backup lights were an option on all 1965 Mustangs (early build, so-called "64-1/2" Mustangs, as well as the later 1965s). They became a federally-mandated standard feature for the 1966 model year.

Got a '48 CJ that ticks a few boxes - 6-volt, separate key and starter button, no doors, generator, and a glass-bowl fuel pump, to boot... ?

You have not lived if you have not hand cranked then jumped into your vehicle.

Well, the 4-door Jeeps look like stagecoaches and that's the main competitor.

It was never officially a 64 1/2. That was something created years later.
Classic Mustang said:
Although originally the Mustang was advertised as an early 1965 model, Ford made some changes to the later 1965 models that differentiated the two, and it is known today as the 1964 1/2 Mustang (1964.5 Mustang). Thus, the term 1964 1/2 or 1964.5 was eventually coined.

There were lots of changes made over the first few months of production for sure (generator vs. alternator being a big one), but they are all 1965 cars. The biggest tell is that the VINs all start with a 5, which signifies 1965.

I understand why the OP asked this question. There will be differences the next coming years.

64 1/2 wheels were 13" and not 14". The Mustang script on the side fender was shorter. The gas cap had no wire retaining ring (people were stealing gas caps and the wire ring was added in "65" and later stangs).

We won't know...

I wish I had taken a pic as proof, but I was young when I sold it and didn't realize what I had.... but my Mustang Title from the California DMV stated 64 1/2 as the year.

My 1950 IHC truck still has a hand crank! You are correct...that is living!
