I'm in the market for a hitch cargo carrier solution (roof rack isn't an option for me as I don't have the clearance in my garage).

I've been trying to do research on this forum for the past several days, but I am a bit overwhelmed at the number of threads, and the dates of the threads. A ton of threads from 2021/2022 when the bronco was new, but has there been any innovation since?

Essentially I am looking for two things:

1) If possible, a cargo basket that can fit into the factory trailer hitch (without an extender), that I can still open my tailgate fully on my sasquatch bronco.

2) If the above isn't really possible, what's the best pivoting solution? I've seen Kuat, Rakattach, Saris all as options on this forum. (And what is the best cargo basket for the pivoting arms?)

Thanks in advance.

Check out the RucRak system. Spare tire mount and then rests on your hitch for weight distribution. Highest clearance option that I can imagine that still lets you open the tailgate.

I threw a harbor freight steel unit at mine for some boat batteries I needed to move. The real issue with my boat trailers and the the cargo carrier is the spare. It’s right over the ball for trailer and it eats into the hitch hauler space. You can Open the tailgate with nothing in the carrier. Id extend mine if I was putting a cooler on it.

Do you know the model number? As long as I can clear the tailgate with my Sasquatch tire I’m happy.

I use the Yakima EXO system and it's really fantastic, Fully modular, fits the Bronco with a hitch extension. Allows access to the rear cargo with swing out. You can add a bike rack, cargo basket, cargo box, second tier, etc.

Looks promising. What hitch extension did you go with? And do I need the extension if I want to use only the bottom level to start out with?

I’ll check them out, but not sure if I’m interested in a spare tire mount
it does not strap to the tire like some other options out there. It’s attached behind the spare tire on its own bracket

definitely need the extension (at least with 35s). I picked up one from kuat with a built-in stabilizer and it does a really good job keeping things nice and stable. You do lose some weight capacity when you use the extension but for my purposes, it’s been totally fine.

The X-Rack hitch cargo rack is made in the USA. It features an extended hitch tube to clear the spare tire and you will be able to open the tailgate with the rack installed. We have lots of add-on features to our racks to carry more gear including off road equipment, fishing rods, ski and snow equipment and more.

I wanted to get home and put it in to take some measurements. So with a Badlands non squatch (33”) tire, There is exactly 1” to spare from the carrier to the tire. It could easily be increased using a custom cheap gusset plate on the truck side to replace the center tie bracket.

Do you have any pictures of your set up? Do ever feel like it’s hanging too far off the back? Thanks!
