When should I even expect to get a VIN?

I ordered my Bronco about 5 months ago. When should I even expect to get a VIN? Do they not release that until it's scheduled to be built? I have no build date at this time and realistically don't expect to receive it this year.

All depends on your build, dealers allocations, builds in front of you and current constraints. Nobody can tell you when you will be scheduled. Some have walked in off the street, placed an order and were scheduled in a month. Many others reserved a Bronco on opening night and are still waiting to be scheduled.

I believe they emailed my VIN when I was originally scheduled for assembly. That production date ended up getting pushed 3+ months but the VIN obviously didn’t change any during that interim.
