Anyone know the cost to do 4.27 / rear locker aftermarket? Ideally without voiding warranty?

I’m not going to argue this point with you, but you are spreading incorrect information. Doesn’t really matter to me but it may miss inform someone in the future.

Edit: Maybe these screen shots will help. Your confusion likely lies in the fact that when you select Advanced 4x4 the price increase is moved into the Base MSRP and not called out as an option. You paid $1,590 for the Advanced + 4.27 Locker it just wasn’t called out separate.

Pics show Base OBX, OBX with 4.27 only, OBX with 4.27 + Advanced 4x4.

For what it is worth, in the Canada build and price if you select the Automatic 4x4 in the outer banks trim, it is $1845 and automatically includes the 4.27 and rear locker.

it also says $0 for them under the powertrain sections.

When I first optioned my Black Diamond I did not have the Autos 4x4 selected, when i went back into change that I couldn't, I had to start the order over again. Its the first thing selected in the Canadian order system anyways, so then the auto 4x4 upgrade price is part of the baseline price.

Just some personal notes from back when I was deciding on all this stuff (finally decided on SAS 4.70). It shows what I personally felt was the "best target gearing" for various tire sizes. For instance, I will be 4% over-geared when the SAS arrives, and 1% under-geared when I put on BFG 37 K02's.

Most interesting thing about this is how the 3.73 fits in to the table. Barely adequate for the base 30 inch tires - unless you are buying a Bronco for maximum mileage in which case you need a head check. Also, my understanding that the ring gear on the 3.37 - 4.46 is welded to the carrier, so gear changes will be an involved process.

These are just my personal assumptions derived from the research that I have done. Some will want higher gearing, and some will want lower gearing for various reasons. Please feel free to make your own assumptions, as I do not plan to defend my notes.

So you are saying that your Transfer Case Dial does not have the 4A option at the bottom of the dial?
As Beachin 74 said, it's for real, no 4A, wish I had it. I bought an abandoned order so this is how the guy ordered the Bronco, if it was me ordering I would have gotten the advanced 4X4 but at least I have the 4.27.

The Advanced 4WD costs $1,590 and does include the 4.27 rear locking axle. By itself, the 4.27 rear locker is $795.
Aha! I now know why we differ on the cost of the 4.27 diff. The 2 door OBX does charge separately for the 4.27 rear diff and Advance 4WD system ($1590 tot), while the 4 door includes both at $795. I have the 4 DR model and only paid $795 as both come in a package, whilst the 2 DR comes ala carte.

Ultimately we are talking apples and oranges.....and I now know why we differ on the cost of the 4.27 diff. I do have the 4A full time transfer case option and had to take it in order to get the 4.27 diff.

I was referring to the 4 door. If you got both features for $795, perhaps you did so when it was priced differently than it has been of late.

That's the problem.....when I go into the Price and build feature just now for the 4 DR and click the 4.27 diff, it automatically includes the Advanced 4WD system (4A transfer case). When I remove the Advanced 4WD option, the diff returns to the 3.73 open style. The only thing that would make sense on our differences is region as I had to include my zip code to start the Build & Price process. Maybe Calif customers get a better deal.

I have the 2 door and had to fight to get them to order it correctly (3x times re-doing the order to get from E5A to E5C) 4x4 adv with 4.27 locker. You could get it either way in the 2 door OBX.

The 4.27 gear has been good so far for me, with some minor mods I was able to get some decent mileage on the highway.

Bump.

wondering about this still. My order was made and re-made several times due to miscommunications with the dealership. I’m not going to blame them — I wanted to change color and, somehow in the fray I lost the 4.27 rear locker on my OBX (wasn’t going to get advanced 4x4 anyway)

I would love to add the 4.27 locker later on, or perhaps just regear to 4.27, if it’s not an astronomical expense.

Anyone have a sense of price on a job like this?
