Anyone planning on 40s?

Add: I should add I don’t plan to go 40s but I want to watch someone else go for it.

Get ready to buy gears. SG-D44-538*** Not sure what the differences will be between the Jeep and the Ford versions of the M210 and M220 Dana44 front/rear axles.

No way the half shafts and CVs are up to supporting the angles need to jack a Bronco up high enough to clear 40s. Might as well rip out the suspension and slap some solid axles in at both ends.

Which someone will do sooner or later.

Let’s see how 37s/38s fit & hold up on these before we start talking about 40s...if you actually plan on wheeling it you’re gonna be spending quite a pretty penny on axle and steering upgrades. Beefed up tie rods, ball joints, front CV axles, chromoly rear axle shafts, etc.

Dana 44s on the JL Rubicon’s are holding up to moderate wheeling with 40s when they’re properly built but the true answer to 40s is one ton axles. I’ve seen guys break ring gears, pinion gears and axle tubes themselves running 40s on the Jeep forums.

Rotating mass and tire weight play a big role in all of this too. I’d check out the 38x13.50 Patagonia MT and 39x13.50 BFG KM3. Smaller and lighter than “true” 40s and they’re easier on Dana 44 driveline & steering components.

I think a lot of us are buying the Bronco because it will drive better on road than a Jeep; and in stock form is just as good off road.

If you are going to build a rock crawler that requires 40s you are simply better off with the solid axle Jeep.

That's the thing I don't understand. Why did you go Sas if you want to lift for 40s? You are going to be throwing out the whole existing suspension.

My buddy has broken 3 axle shafts in his front F-250 Dana 60 running 40’s.

Once you get above 37’s, if you wheel hard you’re going to break stuff. It’s just a fact of wheeling.

Excuse my language 🤣🤣🤣

Agreed - Choose the right tool for the job.

Thanks for the comments and ideas.
So far 3 routes to go:
1) Daily/Mall Crawl Route (not in an insulting way): Drop front diff like the 1/2 ton truck lifts (most folks).
2) Full on Baja Route: Longer front arms, shafts, coil over shock, etc. Wide track rear 4 link axle (personal favorite that I want to see. 40s at full gas in the dirt.).
3) Full on Rock Crawl Route: Solid front axle swap.

I want to see all 3 and in action.
