I find it interesting that the swing gate swings to the right instead of left, and Wranglers are the same way. What I don't like is that anytime I'm parked at a curb, I'd rather it swing to the left so I don't have to walk around it to unload. Currently, the way I'm parked in my garage I also wish it swung to the left for unloading purposes but I won't put that on Ford because in my last house swinging to the right was best, that could go either way!

When I think about it, the old school swing away tire carriers also swung to the right. I'm wondering if it is a liability issue in that they think it is safer to swing that way when parked forward facing at a curb?

I dont have an answer for you other than every swing gate vehicle i have ever seen swings to the right.... jeep, lexus GX....even older CRVs and rav 4s.....not sure why it swings away from the curb, but it is annoying from time to time.

I thought this was brought up to the design team back in the reveal days.
They had it swinging the other way but when they designed it to swing more than 90* somebody pointed out it would swing way out into traffic.

That thing would block half a lane of traffic when it's at full open.

Maybe they should do a lift glass over barn doors!!!

Also in the USA when parallel parked on a street, sometimes the street will be inclined slightly for drainage. By having the rear door swing towards the curb, it doesn't have to counter that incline.

Right is right and left is just wrong lol. Funny you say this, in a different situation the house we live in now was built as we were moving to town (8 years ago). Damn near every door opens to the left when our previous houses most opened right...the left drives me crazy!

I kind of liked the spare having it's own arm on my '92, (Made cleaning the tailgate easier), however with it down, I'm sure it was a pita for shorter people to reach in to grab items in the back...?

In an alternate reality, the tailgate open itself with the assistance of gravity, the way Mr. Frey intended.

Roll-down power window, like on the 4Runner too! I think that's why @North7 loves the 4Runner so much 😁 ;)
