Why is the 2.7 tuned down HP wise in the Bronco compared to other Ford/Lincoln models?

HP - how fast you hit the wall,
LB-FT - how far you push that wall
Always thought of it this way (which I think is correct).
Torque= how much work can be done
HP = how fast you can do the work

I would consider both accurate. :alien:

Looks like it's tuned for more torque which is what you need in a heavier truck. Depending on what is tweaked, and it could be quite a few things, to get that torque you may have to give up a little horsepower.

The FordAuthority- page referred has wrong information about the block. It´s still CGI in the block.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_EcoBoost_engine#3.0_L_Nano

The 3.0-liter version of the engine was created by increasing the 2.7-liter's cylinder bore in the CGI-block from 83.0 millimeters to 85.3, and by lengthening piston stroke by 3.0 millimeters (to 86.0).
Otherwise they had to do it much bigger in size.

Marketing. They have a long term strategy of Broncos running the gamut from $29,995 poverty spec that can be advertised at $299/mo leases all the way up to some Ford Performance Super Warthog with ridiculous power, suspension and tires. Oh, and ridiculous price to go with it. There will be a Bronco for every budget. Therefore, they have to carefully parse out power numbers to go with each one of those rungs on the ladder. There will doubtless be at least two steps between the Joe Average 2.7 and whatever the top of the range is. Probably a hybridized 2.7 and perhaps the 3.5 EcoBoost. What the powertrains are is TBD at this point, probably largely dependent on the buying public's rate of acceptance of electrification in the pickup/off-road segment. But the strategy is locked in: they want Broncos at every price level from $30K all the way up to probably getting near six figures.
This absolutely.

It’s disingenuous to list the huge 494hp hybrid vehicle rating when discussing the “engine”, since there are also electric motors in play to get to that level. The engine itself is good for about 400 of that.

Average tune on a 2020 F150 running a 2.7EB (about as close to the Bronco with a 2.7 as we can get right now) adds an additional 50hp/60tq....so in theory it puts the Bronco at about 360hp and 460tq with a few clicks and an OBDII connector. Not certain how much more power folks want from a stock 4x4 :)

Some of those ratings are the Premium Fuel versions, Lincolns and performance vehicles often list horsepower based on Premium fuel, lower versions tend to be rated on regular. Sometimes the same engine will get different ratings due to this. Taurus SHO was rated at 365HP, Flex was 355 due to Premium being recomend on SHO and regular on Flex.

Also remember the 310 rating on Bronco is "projected", if it ends up more nobody complains. I can't see the engine being different than F-150, wouldn't make any financial sense, very possible that intake restrictions to help with water fording, or exhaust kinks could cause a lower rating however.
