Have you ever had a rattler bite you squarely on the balls? Ever had your head ripped off by a grizzly?
Decades of tent camping, a rattler has NOT bite me in the balls nor a grizzly ripped my head off. I feel jipped.

I do see the pull of the added comfort.

I think the trusty dome tent still works for me.

There are some pros for sure that people like but I prefer traditional

There are also plenty of fast/rapid/speed pitch tents that are easy to break down and throw in your rig and it seems easier and faster for multiple people to break down a site on the ground versus in the air

And if you want to get some quick shade and walk in/out for things without climbing up as well unless you have a separate shade canopy for a sitting area

The stuff you pile on your roof gets all the air kill bugs too

I'm pretty sure if that ever happened to anyone, they would not be here to respond to your question. LOL

Australians are camping gear whores. Grotesquely overloaded with unnecessary gear, an outfitter's dream come true. Don't believe me, check out OME available spring rates. For Toyotas OME's lowest spring rate is higher than any other manufacturers, and they have 3 stiffer ones available.

came across this video today and it touches on all the points why I decided a RTT will never be my thing, way too expensive, way too cumbersome, exposed high to the wind and ties your rig down in the spot, so no exploring.
I was out when I saw the prices!

The main reason we decided to get one is because the 4x4 fishing beach doesn't allow tents on the ground. But, I will need to sort out a way to remove it easily and unfortunately that looks like I am going to have to renovate our garage door entrance size and install a hoist...one day....

You're spending $65K for the Bronco and are worried about 2 grand for a tent? And lower gas mileage-give me a break. There's hundreds of Jeeps with RTTs Without the roofs caving in.

The reason for RTTs in Florida - alligators and pythons.

I personally put mine on top of my adventure trailer.

I tent camp with my family but this is the way to go, especially if you want to do any dispersed camping. Unhook and set up, then go explore in the Bronco. I'll be looking for something that is light, functional and able to do so rocky roads without too much concern. This will be a nice upgrade from tent camping (at least for my wife and I). My kids can continue to rough it, ha.

Not gonna try it on the Bronco, but we have a Roof Nest brand clamshell RTT on the LR4. Being of my age, my gender, and as a GA pilot I’m used to relieving bladder issues into containers.
And the dogs sleep “downstairs” in the LR.
I, too, am looking at little trailers for behind the Bronco w the RTT on it.
