A wildland fire started near Moab yesterday. Initial reports are that it started from a campfire. Winds were crazy here yesterday, whether fire bans are in effect or not, use your brain. Be careful out there!!!

I was there a week a go and it was REALLY HOT.....as in well over 100 degrees hot, but not much wind to speak of. With wind, that place could really explode so yikes.

Hopefully they get it under control before too much damage and not to be insensitive but is it anywhere near off-rodeo?

Wildfires spread quickly and easily. This isn't a good sign unless there's rain in the forecast.

IDK where the Off Rodeo is. The fire is SSE of Moab on the SW flank of the LaSals, nothing but more fuel and up slope in the direction of the predominant wind.

I mean, not to make light of the fire but it would be interesting to have the off-rodeo in a burned out wasteland. Who knows, they could make part of it an apocalypse theme where we learn evasive driving skills for when we have to bug-out during the end of the world.

No rain forecasted for this area unfortunately. Utah is experiencing one of the worst droughts in 1200 years (along with the rest of the West). Add on to that the fact that Lake Meade is at its lowest levels since it was made.

Did anyone else order the firehose with their Bronco?
The Filson outfit was there in April, but that 50gal tank and two man crew wouldn't make much of a dent.

Like you say 50 gallons would be like spitting on it. It would be more effective fighting fires using the pioneer gear and a hand crew.

Absolutely, my son is a wildland firefighter and chainsaws, shovels and maddox control fires, not water.

Moab is already a planet-of-the-apes wasteland. No fire needed (or even possible in most of Moab). :)

The lower elevations around town have sparse desert vegetation, the current fire started in Pinon-Juniper woodland and is progressing up in elevation on the LaSal Mountains into Aspen and Spruce-fir woodland, it burns very well.
