Hate to admit it, but the chill is in the air up here.

So, this is for those in the North or at elevation with prolonged winters.
Curious who has mounted STUDDED SNOW TIRES on their SAS setup for the winters? Using 315/70/R17s? Which tires? Different size? Different wheels? Debating getting another set of wheels or just swapping over with the stock SAS wheels (like I need a reason).

-PLEASE (and I know this will be hard) resist the urge to highjack this thread into a debate between stock tires vs all-weather vs soft compound vs etc, etc, etc. Been there, done that. I’ve used them all.
Thanx!!

As long as you're going to the trouble of winter tires, you will see the best snow & ice performance by using a much more narrow tire than the SAS. I'd recommend a more narrow wheel with some narrow winter tires.

My stock Goodyears did great last winter. Deep snow, light dusting and some ice. I see no need to change to a full winter tire on the Bronco. When these wear out it will either be another set or a set of MT Baja Boss ATs. SWMBO’s Ecosport gets winter tires every November. Those are Blizzacks and they’re awesome.

Kinda what I was thinking as well.

I'd suggest General Grabber ATX like standard on the Back Diamond but maybe in 285/70R17 size. You loose less than 1" ground clearance but have a narrower tire. They can be studded I believe.

Yup. Looked at those in the 285. They can be studded and should fit the SAS wheels w/o issue.

Wow, I hadn't thought about studded tires in a looooong time. I remember holding the pan while my father pulled the studs out of the tires on his and my mother's cars, with side cutters. Michigan had just determined that studded tires were bad for our roads.
I remember the lecture well:
Good snow tires w/siping.
One size narrower, mounted on wheels from a salvage yard.
Start moving in a higher gear.
Slow down sooner, over a longer distance.
Most important, it is not the snow that is the problem, it is the accompanying ICE that will get you killed.
Our modern tools are so much better than what we had at that time. That being said, be safe BillTheCat, and all others in the northlands.

I've run Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT2 studded 315/70R17 for 3 winters now in Alaska. I have a separate set of wheels for them seeing as how they are on for 6 months at a time. I'm very happy with them!

Definitely high on my option list. Plus its cool to say 'Hakkapeliitta'.
Where did you end up getting your tires/wheels?
Slim pickings for wheels up here!
Thanks!

The tires were a Facebook marketplace find before my Bronco even arrived, guy traded his Raptor in on summer tires and had no use for them. They were 90% an I got them fir $1k.

I got my wheels from Distinctive Ride in Wasilla.
