As soon as I heard all four quarter panels could be unbolted, I thought about to upgrading from my 4dr black diamond (planned as family car/daily driver) reservation to get a 2dr wild trak with baja mode and put some upper and lower 3.5" control arms on it and some 2.5" long travel coilover springs. I think I would have to take out the back seat and cut the body tub though, which is no bueno for the wife and daughter.

Thankfully, I just bought a 2006 MT V6 TRD Tacoma with 209,000 miles on it for $6,500 with a body that's trail-dinged to crap already that I plan to cutting torch the crap out of to turn into a long-travel hill jumper this winter. I live 7 miles from Silver Lake Sand Dunes; don't think for a second that the whole time in the BD/taco, I will be dreaming about being behind the wheel of that imaginary Wild Track...

A stock Bronco is not a race vehicle by any stretch. The Baja-1000 has a 34 hour time limit across all classes. That is a 30 mph average for 1000 miles. A stock rig would never make it.

Closest I'll come to racing is pulling away at a stop light and seeing after I hit 5 over everyone else finally getting going

I mean, it's not actually possible to race the Baja with it since it doesn't come with a rollcage or a bunch of other shit, that's not really what I'm asking.

The premise of the question is really more about the value of the offroad bits Ford is offering on something like a Badlands or WildTrak, and whether it would be better to add to what they offer or just start from scratch with a gutted base model.

There is a max height/ center of gravity rule. You maybe able to do some rally cross though. You won't be competitive but it would be fun

I mean, never say never, but the one place i do know is getting cracked down on and I'm more envisioning summer days top/doorless and roadtrips than off-roading, though its part of the equation

Thanks btw

If I know anything about car people, it’s that the first 6g Bronco race probably occurred the moment the second Bronco rolled off the line.

I think you just nailed it for Ford. The performance Bronco should be “Baja rated”. Tested to complete the Baja 1000 in 34 hours when properly equipped.

My answer is a question. If the factory cage won't pass tech then is it easily removed to put one in that will?

I'm in on some rock crawling but I'll cut up something cheaper to go race in the desert. o_O

I bet you're fun at parties. This was supposed to be something fun to ponder, sorry I didn't realize the joy police were low on their quota so early in the month.
