Sounds like several of my buddies from yesteryear.
"Too soon, Jr." comes to mind.
Those 5 seconds are probably awesome.
The next 5? Meh.

I was initially intrigued by the Wrangler 392, but then I snapped out of it. Next they’ll throw a Hemi into their minivans.

Pass. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8/Trackhawk is awesome, but it’s not an off-road vehicle so it’s ok. The Wrangler isn’t meant to be a high performance race car…

Who needs more than 200 horsepower, really, off road? Durability of a straight-six and 190 hp. That's all any of us really need.

“And for about the past two decades, the Wrangler's biggest competition has been Jet Skis and divorces.”

that’s the best line of automotive journalism I’ve ever read

The fun doesn't last much longer than that, though, as this is the rare sub-5.0-second-to-60-mph machine that can't hit 100 mph.
I have no idea who this writer is but he seems pretty ignorant about how cars work. Nearly every light truck sold in North America, for decades, has been electronically limited to 99 mph.

No way I could justify 74k for a Jeep. Could get a Super Duty with the Tremor package and be much more happy.

Hemi in quotes indeed. A trademark, not a design.

I think the price is a bit crazy but the idea is exactly what the off-road community has been needing for the past 10 years since the last V8 offroader left the stage.

Realistically this should be a $50k Jeep for the Everyman, paying $50k to be stuck with a 6 cylinder is laughable at best.

You might want to reread what you quoted before you get too condescending.

Reread what? The way he's worded it is to give the impression that there is a physical limitation to how fast the Jeep will go when it is a software limitation. It shows a lack of skill on the writer's part.
