My wife has a 2018 TRD Off Road Premium with 90K on the clock - not even broken in yet :)
I do agree, the Toyotas are nice and reliable, but a little less edgy than my Badlands, which also had a manaul transmission, that is the thing I miss the most. WIsh Toyota had a manual, make it more stone age.šŸ˜‚ Ford did right by offering one, just wish they cared about quality.

I did exactly what you said, after my terrible experience with the Bronco, I wanted a tried and true modern, yet, old school platform, so I grabbed a '24 TRD ORP before it was too late. The TRD ORP is very similar to a Black Diamond, so I have work to do to make it more similar to my Badlands, but nonetheless, I'm hoping it will be a nice quality vehicle for many years to come. And I also hope all you guys have a far better experience than I had with my Bronco.šŸ‘
Yeah I think you picked the right option. The new Toyotas are either poorly assembled (Tundras/Tacomas) with imploding engines or poorly designed. The new LC barely has any ground clearance and comes with mall crawler tires even with $78K trim. Imagine paying $68K for the mid trim with a plastic underbody and doing this

https://www.landcruiserforum.com/threads/took-it-off-roading-its-in-the-shop.1858/

Thereā€™s so much cost cutting these days. New Tundras don't have tow hooks and Tacomas cheapened out and donā€™t even have bump stops on the suspension.

I do agree with you about the Tacoma and the LC pricing. I do think Tacoma's problem is the same thing with the Bronco and so many others, Toyota is building them all over the place and I'm not sure that's a great idea. The LC will be completely built in th esame factory as the GX and 4Runner, with all Japanese parts. Ground clearance is just one reason I went with the 4Runner, that and it was cheaper and tested, if stone age as you mentioned. Time will tell. Their Tundra problem was a big one, but they are fixing, that's more than I can say for Ford with my Bronco problems. I think manufacturers have to stop this "global car" BS. Too many parts coming from too many places and assembled in usually a different place. Broncos are built here, but that's final assembly as Broncos are only 18% US AND Canadian, that's not even just US parts, it includes Canada. If you get a manual, it's even less now, that's crazy. My issues with Ford and the fact they don't really build American cars anymore is why I left Ford after being a Ford guy for 32 years. It was a pretty good company, but under current management, it sucks.

Q2 sales 77,204 Wranglers (-9.0%), 50,153 Broncos (-14.4%).

Wrangler holds a strong 50% or so sales advantage. I don't mind that as I personally would like the Bronco to be more exclusive. Same with Bronco having roughly a 50% more YoY decline in sales. Both down due to economy, but more so Bronco.

I like the exclusivity, but makes me wonder why both metrics show people prefer to buy Wranglers?

The Ford Bronco embodies the spirit of ingenuity and progress. It wasn't designed to simply compete; it was designed to give the people a choice, an alternative that speaks to principles of rugged capability and modern versatility. Despite the numbers, Ford delivered a machine that offers something differentā€”an evolution of the SUV, built with the same reliability, durability, and adaptability. I feel the Bronco will again stand as a testament to what Ford has always stood for: creating solutions that work for the people, by giving them options that meet their needs and exceed their expectations.

This honestly continues to surprise me. Iā€™ve had several Jeep owners tell me my Bronco has much better road manners and is much more comfortable to drive. And since itā€™s still so much more rare, Iā€™d think of that as a positive, personally.

Obviously any marginal difference in rock crawling or departure angles or whatever isnā€™t going to matter to 99% of the population.

But my guesses for the discrepancies in sales:

1. Jeep still a lot of legacy clout, which helps in a lot of ways e.g. people who ā€œalways wanted a Jeepā€, while most people donā€™t have enough awareness of Bronco due to shorter recent history and lack of marketing for Broncos

2. I really think people perceive Bronco as being much more expensive than Jeeps. I would be willing to bet that lots of people never even price out the Bronco. Iā€™ve had quite a number of people look at me like I must be rich for owning a Bronco, even when they drive cars that are as expensive or more expensive.
I agree.
Everyone that I have talked with about my Bronco thinks the same thing, that I'm rich. Well I'm comfortable but certainly not rich. Frugal maybe?

I'm 63 and have only bought 2 brand new cars in my life. I prefer to let someone else 'take the hit' for driving them off the parking lot. I do my own maintenance and keep them a very long time. Maybe that it why I could retire at 58? That and 29 years of overtime. ;-) It's amazing how much money you can save/invest when you aren't making car payments.

I bought my Bronco used with 13K on the clock. It looks brand new. I respect everyone's decision to spend however much they want on whatever they want. That is the meaning of life - freedom of choice. Personally, I will not spend the prices they are asking for new vehicles. Thank you to all of the people that do and trade them in after 2 years.

Ford has made a mistake getting rid of the base model. Cheapskates like me like them.

I was looking at jeeps, namely Gladiators, when I was shopping. I'm happy with the Bronco base and don't regret it one bit. It's not perfect but neither am I. I do see upgrading to leather seats in the future. The cloth will eventually wear out where I slide on it entering and exiting.

The 102K recalled V6 engines were made in Alabama (Tundra) AND Japan (LX600).

I think the issue is not global manufacturing but cost cutting by bean counters and also in the rush to meet various environmental regulations some questionable designs (10 years ago it was 100% GDI engines - now we have port and direct injection). I'm still on updated Sequoia groups and stuff is falling apart left and right. You'd think the Sequoia was made by Ford lol. These new Toyotas won't last 15 years like the previous gen.

Consumer Reports says that Jeep has some of the worst reliability ratings of any automaker .
Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep always had the words reliability of the "big three". Selling the company to the guys who make Fiat wasn't going to make that any better.

Camaro has always been the better performing vehicle but doesn't have the decades old ownership base and isn't as relevant in today's culture.
Camaro always had a higher performing trim than Mustang. At considerable expense. The vast majority of V6 Camaros were certainly no better than the V6 Mustangs.

No doubt a lot of people (especially it seems on 6G site) spend on upscaled versions. In those cases the cost comparison changes.
I want the cheapest car I can get, with the least tech, and a manual transmission.

My Bronco was $30,500 with destination. Cheapest now is $14k more. Entry level Jeep with the stick is considerably lower than the entry level Bronco now.

At $46k, I'd have skipped the Bronco and ordered another Mustang.

Wranglers are the cool car for high schoolers and they are considerably cheaper. I had assumed getting my son a Bronco, but when they discontinued the Base, he got a Jeep.

$30k will get you the entry level Bronco Sport now...

As if that's anywhere near acceptable.

You think the Wranglers and Broncos are overpriced until you see the Polaris pricing.

Holy crap! Those are starting to be the trendy thing to run around town with here, but I had no idea they were so stupidly overpriced!

Thatā€™s insane.

LOL. I forgot about that. Waking up in a world so screwed up that cloth cant be sourced. My brain immediately went to Ron Whiteā€™s bit about his friend was "kickin back broth."

I was really all in on the Black Diamond interior. I really like the Sandstone Big Bend seats I ended up with, however. It's only carpet that makes me sad.
Itā€™s a funny world. I ordered a ā€˜23 Big Bend specifically for the cloth seatsā€¦along came the MY23 Job2 changes that screwed me out of that and I got MGV. Luckily I found a set of BB cloth take offs that I could swap out so life was still goodā€¦.till ford bought back the ā€˜23 cuz they couldnā€™t fix it. So I ordered a ā€˜24 Big Bend with the mandatory MGV and wouldnā€™t you know it, rear seat fold down cup holders. Now the cloth take off seat covers arenā€™t gonna fit. šŸ«Ø

First world problems hitting hard.

Well, in my case, I wanted a 2-door with cloth seats and a soft top with all the good off-road bits. Ford doesn't want to build what I want to buy, and once they killed the base I had no choice but another Wrangler.

Add to that the prices are out of line on Bronco. I had Granger quote one recently, and even with their pricing it would cost me $10K plus my '23 JL Rubi that I hold the pink slip for - not seeing the value. And I'd be stuck with a hardtop I don't want, problematic or not.
