Got the call today from Granger that the FE is in, accessories and add-ons complete and ready to go. Now to make a decision.....

What would you do?

1) Fly out and drive back to Vegas, burn 1200 miles in 2 days,

or

2) Load it up on a truck and have it brought out and keep the miles low?

Im option #1, you could then break it in on the way back.

Depends on if you have the time to drive it home. I think the break in period is 500 miles? Is shipping it saving you from just having it sent to a dealer here in Vegas? 1200 miles isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Drive it and hope it doesn’t break down? Hmm maybe put it on a trailer. Break it in closer to home.

I'm surprised by the decisions people try to outsource. Seems like a hard question for internet-people to meaningfully weigh in on. If it were me, I would be thinking through considerations such as:
  • How does the $ cost of these two options compare? Is cost a consideration? If cost is the primary consideration, how much are you saving by driving?
  • How long will shipping take in option #2? How much sooner will you be able to enjoy your new car by driving?
  • What is the opportunity cost associated with #1, i.e. would you have to cancel plans to commit two days to driving?
  • Do you personally enjoy or dislike long road trips?
  • Etc.
These seem like pretty obvious questions to ask yourself, not sure if that's what you were looking for though?

I agree with doing a cost analysis on this, fuel and time vs. flying, however if it's pretty close, I'd drive it back. As mentioned, you'll get your "break-in" period done and over with, plus it'd be a cool road trip and add to your Bronco order story.

Unless you are really going to enjoy the road trip, I would ship. The chance of failure is high in the 1st 500 miles (infant mortality of components).

I had a very similar decision. I went and picked it up and drove it home. My Bronco had over 1150 miles on it when it entered my driveway. Great experience! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I am planning a long road trip when mine arrives next month, so I would for sure jump at the chance to get a little seat time and get to know my new ride.
