Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Backbone Rack

After weeks spent researching various roof rack systems, I am preferring the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Backbone Rack. I understand the system I will need for my Bronco 2-door is not yet available from Rhino-Rack, but I am willing to wait. Indications from the company point to a summer/fall 2021 release.

The following video shows the rack profile I seek.

I was able to identify several advantages for me in selecting the Rhino-Rack over the Yakima.
  • Increase in weight limits. Dynamic = 220lbs, Static = 530lbs
  • Lower profile to accommodate garage door height restriction.
  • Accessory mounts for Maxtrax, Rotopax, and Shovel with lower profiles.
  • Easier to remove roof panels for an open-air experience.
  • When two front panels are removed, no roof rails interfere with the open-air experience.
  • Once the Backbone is installed can switch between the Pioneer Platform and the Vortex Crossbars to accommodate an RTT more easily such as the iKamper Mini.

Will a Pakmule low profile carrier fit under a 35?

I have a question. Can you remove both the front 2 panels and the "gunner hatch" on the 2DR and still use a roof rack?

So far I've found two that are light enough. The Yakima SkyRise Medium and the GoFast Superlite.
Thule Tepui is 105 lbs, but nothing is going to beat the Superlite. Wish it came with LED Lighting like the Smittybilt

Forgot about that one. Isn't it on the accessories list?
It is but I’m thinking you might be able to find cheaper. There’s also Tuff Stuff Overland RTT for $8-$900 at 105lbs.

I posted this somewhere else, but the SeaSucker Monkey Bars are an option for roof racks that allow full hardtop functionality. Really nice because they can be installed anywhere along the roof panels. Obviously they wouldn't work for RTTs and the like but for kayaks, camping gear, etc they'd work great. Just wish they made an aero design instead of round but I guess beggars can't be choosers.
