I reached 1 Year with my bronco, Pepper, and I wanted to recap the adventures I've been on with her:
How it started:
Traded in 2021 Bronco Sport Badlands (44k miles)
Used 2022 OBX (17k miles)
2.7L V6
4.27 gearing
Rear locker
Lux package
How Pepper has changed:
18k mi travelled (based in SLC, UT)
Removed previous vinyls
Installed WT takeoff suspension, wheels, tires
Swapped steps for OEM rock rails
Plastidip badges
Mabett tailgate table, added custom vinyl behind it
Mabett cargo light
Dash cam
DIY chase lights
Stubby Antenna
25% front sticker fab ceramic tint
Mabett trail sight lights (to be wired)
Sound deadened
Where Pepper has been:
I get a patch whenever I take Pepper on an adventure and Velcro it to the headliner. Here is a recap of all the trips I have been on:
Glacier National Park:
Simply incredible, my 2nd favorite park behind Yosemite. Pepper made easy work of the dirt roads and deep puddles up to North Fork and Lodgepole. Taking the top off and driving Going-to-the-sun road during sunset was heavenly.
Moab + Bronco Offroadeo:
Solo trip down to Moab mostly for Bronco Offroadeo. I got to participate in the Bronco Sport Offroadeo so it was fun to compare it to the Bronco one. Took a day to visit Arches, entering through the North entrance and taking Salt Valley Jeep Road.
Saturday did the OffRoadeo, highly recommend.
Canyonlands Solo:
Took my yearly solo trip to Moab, this time centered around Canyonlands. Had an awesome spot camping on BLM land outside the Needles section so I could get out and hike early in the morning. Spend the next night on BLM up in Island in the Sky so I could watch the sunrise through Mesa Arch. Took Shafer Road back down.
Red Rock Canyon:
Headed down for a rock climbing trip, however it rained on the first day which meant the rock was unsafe for the rest of the weekend which was a letdown. Put a damper on the trip, still enjoyable camping but nothing too crazy to report here.
Moab Camping Trip:
Went camping with some friends for a quintessential Moab trip. Hit arches and Canyonlands for all the classic hikes. Took Long Canyon up to Canyonlands.
Rocky Mountain National Park:
4th of July trip to RMNP. Fantastic camping spot in Glacier Basin. Drove up Trail Ridge Road, otherwise nothing crazy for the bronco.
Timpanogos Caves National Monument:
Tried to go hike Mt Timp on a Friday but the trailhead was full at 7am. Found a ticket to tour the caves instead.
Country Fan Fest:
Rented a trailer with some friends that got dropped off so took the bronco to the campground.
Future:
I plan to go on many more trips, exploring both new and old places. My hope is to hit more trails with Pepper, especially now that my best wheeling buddy moved back in town.
For upgrades, in the short term I still need to wire the front indicator lights. I will be grabbing skidplates (leaning SFR so I can get their front bumper eventually) to give more confidence on trail as well. I have a number of projects planned including making custom raptor lights for the OBX grille.
Final thoughts:
Simply put, I have loved the bronco. It has its flaws but I know what I signed up for when I got one. It is so nice be able to confidently wherever you want, be it hiking or camping or during winter (50+ days skiing this year). I cannot wait to see what year 2 has in store!
Note: I love planning trips and left out many details of my trips, if anyone is planning to visit any of these locations I can gladly give suggestions for hiking, camping and must-see spots. Also happy to give opinions on any modifications I've made.
