I have a very large 1/8" sheet of black plastic. I'm thinking of making some flaps for the front of the OBX equipped with a factory running board.

The plastic is easy enough to cut to fit, and I made a *very rough* cardboard prototype. The cardboard is also 1/8" thick.

If you have feedback for any structural faults, I'd like to hear it.

The first photo is the mounting points, their positions roughly indicated by yellow dots. I'm thinking two in the thick plastic rib of the inside of the fender flare (with a spacer to take up the space between the rib and the plastic flap), two in the running board end cap, and one in a hole I will drill in the crash bar.

The second photo is a view of the proposed flap from the back. From behind you will not be able to see any of the mounting hardware.

Several questions:
1) This is not a high load/stress mount, so is the plastic cap on the running board, coupled with the other mounting points, strong enough? Should I interpose a thin metal plate between the flap and the cap for added strength? The plate will simply be cut so it cannot be seen, and will have two holes that coincide with the screw holes.

2) Whats the best mounting hardware that won't come loose? I'm thinking a simple aircraft nut for the bottom three points. What about the top point? Just a self-tapping screw of the appropriate length?

3) Is 1/8 inch too thin? Should I get something thicker? The plastic seems pretty sturdy.

Thanks,
DK
