Adding my $0.02 worth of experience winter driving in the high country: chains will absolutely bury you in deep snow.
They are good for ice and hard packed snow or when the snow is not very deep and you can reach the ground. But when driving in deep snow, they’ll just act like 4 snow shovels and dig down until your belly is resting gently on a bed of snow. As your tires spin helplessly - touching nothing.
Deep snow is similar to sand - air down as low as you dare to get a little bigger footprint. Then match RPMs to vehicle speed and try to keep on top of the snow pack. Like a snow mobile.
And for God’s sake….keep moving!
Oh and once your bumper starts pushing snow - you’re done. Back off and try again. Soon as you become a snow plow it’s only a matter of feet before you’ll be stuck. The snow will continue to pile up in front of you until no amount of traction can save you.
