According to Ford (via Muscle Cars & Trucks), this is the primary reason why the Bronco Raptor isn't powered by a V8:

“The truck has to go through the same assembly line (as Ranger and base Bronco) and we want to follow the same processes… the 2.7L is part of the ‘Nano’ family and the 3.0L is the upgrade to it,” Ford Performance Vehicle Engineering Manager Derek Bier told MC&T.
“The 3.5L EcoBoost is a different technology, a different power pack. (3.0L) was the most capable of the Nano, also with upgrades unique to the Bronco Raptor, allowing us to follow that same bill of process, that same platform, that same control strategy, and just be efficient.”

Is it the same transmission as the standard Bronco? If so I'd be a little concerned....

Are Explorer ST's out there blowing transmissions constantly? I don't understand why folks are so bent out of shape about this.

Given the size and price of this thing I'm not sure why people wouldn't just go for the F-150 raptor

I'm sure not what people want to hear, but as an Industrial Engineer this make sense. Gotta be able to build it to sell it.
We want to hear that the moon is actually made of cheese! Put a 5.0 in the Ranger and BAM! the whole thing works!

Figured as much. It makes perfect sense honestly. As @Kos said it just makes sense to not completely change the production setup for a single lowish-volume vehicle that only costs $70,000.

Yeah I don't get it either.

10R80 seems to be what everyone wants... but that's a 800 nm transmission intended for a full-sized truck that tows over 10,000 lbs. Not a mid-sized SUV like the Bronco.

BUT HEY, people want what they want.
