Hard top removal a beast

I have a 23 two door. When I try and remove the drivers side panel I have to beat and punch the area just above the mirror to get it to free up. Some time ago I came across a post about how to align the pin so this doesn't happen. Can someone help me find it. ( I searched using several different terms but was unable to locate it.) I figured I would just take it to a dealer but they told me it is 7-10 day wait for their trim shop after I drop it off.

I'm pretty sure you just loosen up the bracket(s) bolts that the pin drops into and slide/move/adjust the bracket accordingly.
