Looking for help making a decision. I have the base audio system and have already installed a Kicker Key 200.4 amp running off stock speakers. DSP performed. Plenty loud enough highs, but still want a little clearer audio and just a bit more bass. Here are the 2 options I’m debating on. Help me decide please!

Option 1 - 4” dash speakers (Kicker KS) + 6-3/4” kick panel speakers (Kicker KS) + JBL BassPro Nano powered subwoofer under seat.

Option 2 - 4” dash speakers (Kicker KS) + 6.5” kick panel Memphis MJP6 Woofers.

The goal of Option 2 is to get more bass out of the kick panel speakers/woofers instead of doing the mini powered sub install. Would be quicker and easier too. I would lose some highs, but feel the dash speakers will make up for that.

Thoughts? Thank you.

You’re not going to lose highs by not going coax down there.

Dedicated bass with a sub always sounds better but I like music with base.

MJP6 is advertised to handle down to 50hz frequencies, which is the same rating as the JBL nano. You’ll get the same range of bass response from adding the mojos, and still keep high frequency response up to their rated 10khz, anything above that you’ll want up on the dash anyway.

I vote update the 6.5s, and if you still feel like you need more bass, you can always throw more amplification at them, or add a dedicated subwoofer.

What he said ☝ I guess my real answer is, do both, but with a “real” sub.

I’m doing dedicated woofers and then a sub if I feel it’s necessary. I was thinking about using the tang band shallow subs but their efficiency scared me away. The kicker key won’t have the ass for them to be loud enough

Based on tons of other posts, upgrading sound system definitely improves audio quality, but the key is still finding the secret to unlocking the limits of the rear speakers. Let us know how the audio is after your upgrade.

I added the Pioneer mini hybrid sub with 6 new Kicker speakers. Bass is much better - not booming but full range is deff there and you get some good punch. I'd compare it to a nice home theater level of bass. Rounds things out. Fits right under the driver seat, is pretty cheap, and runs off an easy 20 amp fuse in the dash panel since it's designed for hybrid vehicles.

I don't understand the obsession with rear speakers. The purpose of sound reproduction is to replicate music as if you were there watching and listening live. The soundstage sound expand across the dash and even out onto the hood with a good system and you should be able to imagine a band playing in front of you.

Rear speakers destroy that.

The purpose i believe is ‘immersion’. The sound should envelope you like listening to good stereo sound on quality headphones.
I agree with the above. Do both
