I also installed the harbor freight 400lb winch in between the rafters up in the crawlspace of the garage with the thru hole in the ceiling when I had the Rubicon top to lift off myself. Now, I have about 5-6 feet above the wife's car, trying to figure out a design where I can store the rear hardtop and the middle hardtop on the top section and have a lower section for two front sections and maybe even the doors…. I'm thinking 1” steel pipe since it could be a clean install with all right angle fittings, think PVC will not handle the weight, 2x4’s may be too bulky but easy to work with, there is also insulation for the 1” pipe that can be used for padding and have a ton of webbing straps….
Now just need to think about a design layout to fit everything...
Mainly will have the front two sections and the middle section removed, leaving on the rear section most of the summer, have a mesh top for the sun so that cuts down on the wind against the rear section most of the time.
Any stacking designs ideas that I can lift out of the way with the rafter winch?
This was interesting for a Jeep but need to be able to lift it form the top...
Made my own using uni-strut and a harbor freight hoist and some custom tiedowns. Check out my build photos here. I can now do the entire roof by myself on or off.
