4x4 trails in New England?

Born and raised in northern Arizona. Lived within a 6-8 drive of some of the best 4x4 trails in the country. Left Arizona after college for job/family reasons, and suddenly I find myself in New England. My kids are now old enough to start appreciating the outdoors without being permanently strapped to my back, so I've been looking for some offroad trails.

As weird as it is to admit... I don't really know how to find 4x4 trails in New England. In the southwest I would have just pulled up a map of National Parks or National Forests. But doing that here yields White Mountain and Green Mountain... and... that's it?? Nothing in Massachusetts, Connecticut, upstate New York, eastern Pennsylvania, etc. I downloaded the onX Offroad app (seems to be popular), and outside of some trails in White Mountain, there wasn't a whole lot of anything else.

So... how do you find offroad trails in New England? Any trails that you would recommend?

I have never been in Arizona, however, I would guess it has a lot more public lands. The limited public lands in New England seem to focus on hiking, dirt biking, and snowmobiles/ATMs. I am new to off-road driving (need a Bronco first) and hope to find other 4X4 drivers who can show me the trails. In the meantime, I have been researching various options and I have attached a few links for your review.

@BuzzyBud these are great resources! Thanks for posting them, I really love the map on Vermont Roads there are a decent amount around my parents ski place by Ludlow. I'm excited to take the Bronco up there on a class 4 when I finally get mine. The only experience I have with any type of off road is beach driving down on the Cape ( National Seashore, Sandyneck in sandwich/Barnstable, and Nauset)
My husband and I were hoping we'd be able to do one of North East Adventures trips at some point, as we don't know any other people who off road and all I've heard is you aren't really supposed to go by yourself.

I just spent a little time off-roading in the Rangeley lakes area in Maine. Some of the roads were gravel logging roads..less packed down. But for the most part they were fun roads to be on. There were quite a few off-road options right in The Maine Gazeteer atlas. Good luck! Great links Buzzy!

Yeah, welcome to the North East. Higher population density and almost every scrap of land is owned. It's not as easy, but with a little prep, there are a lot of places to go. As @briggettek2 mentioned, go get yourself a Maine Atlas and Gazetteer. It shows a lot dirt roads on which you can cover some serious ground and make big transits between paved roads. Also, to second @BuzzyBud, the guys at northeastadventurecompany.com seem to have the fix on a ton of good trails.

Big thanks to @BuzzyBud for all the other links. Those are new to me, but I can't wait to check them out.

Great question! I feel the same way and I lived here in NE forever. There are some really nice fire roads and trails in Greenville Maine, which is a bit far for day-weekend trips. I'm all over MA, SNH, and especially the North Shore for work and I've seen plenty of Jeeps with "MASS MUDDERS" stickers. It appears they are a FB group, which I don't have...and of course no website to my knowledge. It looks like private land which could be really fun if they expanded the way they attract members.

Check out NEA4WD.org to see if there are any local clubs in your area. Many of the clubs are Jeep based but most accept anyone. A lot of those clubs are hard core wheelers but there are plenty of stock friendly clubs and trails in New England. Perhaps someone can form a Bronco club and join NEA4WD. The benefits of being a member club are access to private land and lots of info/maps of public land that is less known.
