Bay Area Broncos

Here we go with the new G.O.A.T’s of the bay!!
RandallLG
Doing a quick trip this weekend 4/8 and 4/9. I am going to drive up Highway 4, Friday afternoon I am going to hit Sourgrass trial, camp overnight there. On Saturday, I was going to continue on to Carrol Hollow. I am potentially going to camp a second night on the Carrol Hallow route, depending how long that trail takes. Let me know if anyone is interested in joining.

I may be down. Are you planning to do sour grass with a larger group?

@@BadBlueBronco I'm struggling big time with sending a response from my phone Lol. reposting. I figured this as a solo trip unless some folks here want to join. The trails are going to be pretty easy, not hard wheeling, just some nice sight seeing.

@BadBlueBronco
@RandallLG that’s good to know. I wasn’t sure the difficulty of sour grass but it looked pretty technical at parts

I would make sure they are open. My buddy and I think they are still closed.

@BLMike I went up to sour grass about 3 weeks ago and it was open

@BLMike I'm going to call the ranger station tomorrow to double check, but I'm 90% sure Carrol Hollow is open too.
BLMike
BLMike
@RandallLG That would be great. We tend to base "openness" on snow from cams and such. I would just always double check as weather is always changing. Bear trap (what we nickname Corral Hollow) is fun.

My Bronco has supposedly been shipped! I won’t make this one but excited to be on the road soon.

It is so nice to see people actually do some runs in the Sac Area! To bad I can't make this one (and it sounds like it's technically still closed)

@da_jokker We got hooked off-roading in my Wrangler doing Bear Trap (aka Corral Hollow) and really love it up there. Need to try Sourgrass, I thought that was up higher than it is. Need to explore more. Some is easy some tougher...we do it for the scenery and escape. It is a good day trip to boot.

How did you do in sour grass trail? Recently went up there with my BD Sas with my cousin. He's on a lifted sahara that had sway bar disconnect and 35. We both took the hard lines, and I was lifting tires everywhere and dragging on certain spots. I even got winched on the river crossing, but he was straight cruising. Super dope. Will definitely go again to compare with sways disconnected.

I ended up not running Sourgrass. I drove up to the trailhead of Slick Rock to scout out the trail conditions, then drove back down to Copperopolis to camp for the night. I was thinking about playing on the rocks with my 21 at Slick Rock a little, but I chicken'd out cause I don't have a winch..yet. I do have to say, we all need to get some Bronco runs set up for May once trails start drying out and opening up!

@RandallLG Yes! I will be down for a bronco runs. But yeah, I can definitely relate on you with rock. The whole time i was there i was worried it will get stuck. The bronco kept sliding sideways, especially when rear lockers are off. But that winch idea on hitch like op said is pretty neat. Being able to save weight at times and keeping a nice clearance is awesome.

Copperopolis...I always stop there. I too don't have a winch, yet. There are options out there but I am pretty bummed that I went with mod bumper because I thought Ford would have a good bolt on solution. Not when you have the Lux package. I truly wish there was a bolt on version for the bumper that was "easy" to put on and remove. I don't need a winch everyday and I like the look of the mod bumper. Probably a pipe dream. Could always go with BAMF solution or similar and sell the mod bumper, but I like the fact that I can remove that extra weight when not in use. Which will obviously be 90% of the time.

@BLMike I have seen people mount a hitch to their front bumper and their winch to a hitch insert. That way you can have a winch work for both your front and rear.

I really like the bumpers that Ford designed, but the winch issue has been a huge pain. I haven't been impressed with ANY aftermarket winch bumpers, until I saw a thread about the FabFours stubby bumper. I like the overall shape, fit and finish of it, based on the pictures I've seen. I ordered one and it's scheduled to be delivered today. I plan to make some modifications after I receive, but in my opinion, it's one of the nicer option out there right now.

Nice! I was drawn to that too. Post a pic.

@Peteduce I got the bumper install done last night but I am not sure how to attach pictures in a response so they are up in the original post. I also installed the JKS body mount bracket that deletes the crash bar receivers. It all looks soooo clean now and the JKS bracket made a TON of room in the wheel well. Next is a lift kit from Camburg ordered a few days ago, I'm sure its like 6-146 months out tho...

@RandallLG that looks sweet, appreciate it, more room and weight reduction is always a good thing. That camburg set up looks serious.

Oh. Going to have to take a look at that bumper. Ironically, my buddy and I were talking about putting a hitch on the front. I actually have my lic plate on a bracket under my bumper that the hitch can hide behind when not in use. Definitely thinking more about that as a solution.

Would also be curious if anyone could make something like the 4600 class broncos
