With June upon us want to gauge interest in heading over to Sweet Home Alabama to Little River Canyon on Sat June 14. This is the day before Father's Day, but let me know if that's cutting too close to family obligations? Next Saturday, June 7 is an option as well.

Good to know. What are some of routes you run out there? Never been before, would like to learn more about area.

@Brrrnco I’ve never been, but all indications are it’s mild, but with nice views. There looks to be 2 primary trails. One is about 15 miles, the other is about 8 and is some sort of Skyway. Ryan has been, so he can confirm when back from vacation. I’ve looked up some info on the route and will get and post the coordinates. There’s a visitor center where we may want to meet up, unless there’s a spot nearby such as a big gas station with boiled peanuts or something. Looks like June 14 for the win. I’m itching to hit the woods, haven’t done anything since Super Cel and that’s far too long.

@MadMan4BamaNATL Nice! I’m have some plans but think I could make it up there in time on the 14th. Count me in.

I currently have both the 7th & 14th open.
There just can’t be any mud, water, dirt, or dust on the trails since I just had the entire undercarriage Ceramic Coated…. Is this going to be an issue?

Seriously, I am looking forward to getting this Sasqach off road…!!!

Can’t do the 7th as I plan on installing a kayak hoist for my wife’s new kayak I bought her (partly to apologies for my crazy work schedule this last month), BUT if you guys are good with the 14th I am TOTALLY down…its been to long since my bronco has road on dirt and its thirsty to get back on the trails.

Jun 14 would work for me... It's been quite some time since we've been able to simply get away and enjoy some of the great outdoors. I'm a novice / newbie, despite having our Bronco for nearly 3 years now. I'd welcome the opportunity to ride, learn and enjoy some off-road time with experienced folks.

@rws We'll take care of you bud. Several of us bring gear, tools, a couple have a winch, we have compressors for you to air back up, etc. Just plan to join on the 14th; it'll be fun and nothing too hairy. Someone spots whenever there's something interesting and we have GMRS to communicate or even crack jokes.

Fathers Day weekend might be tough for me to work out depending on if our daughter comes up to visit from Savannah but I may be a last minute addition.

@MadMan4BamaNATL I believe it's sections 8 and 9 that are a little rutted and more challenging. Still not anything too crazy. Maybe a nice little challenge for newer off-roaders to try out. The two river crossings (there are some smaller streams) can be up to 24 inches or so if the level is way up. Very solid rock bed though. The scenic rock area that overhangs the river is at 34.426248023072446, -85.58958242350297. That's where you want to stop for lunch. When you're on the rock you can walk far to the right to wrap down and go underneath to reach the river edge.

@MadMan4BamaNATL

Where I would think makes sense to start into the area at would be

34.4276659, -85.5649627

This is a straight shot to the creek crossing or we start

416 Co Rd 295, Fort Payne, AL 35967

This is going to be a more central area closer to my proposed meeting point. We would be able to go in this way hit the creek crossing then double back to hit other trails.

I am not all that familiar with the sub trails in this area so someone will need to look into how to navigate to 8 or 9 plus the overlook ahead of time. I basically just wandered around for a few hours last trip out there.

@MadMan4BamaNATL its all relatively close. @Rspayde we might wanna give folks who haven't been the scenic tour from above before hitting the trails down low? Mushroom rock was pretty cool (and random) to see.

@RustysBronco yeah that is fair. I'll probably put a bit more effort into solidifying a plan this upcoming week and we can edit from there. Lots to see in that area.

I am probably good for the 14th don't think I can swing the 7th as I need to catch up on home projects after being out of town for a while.

I have done the main drag in and out plus trail 8. By far not an expert and not quite sure how to reach the overlook but we can figure it out!

I was able to do trail 8 with four low and was on 33s and no lift. There was only one section I thought I was in trouble but we made it out.

The best meeting spot is going to be

Little River Canyon Falls Park

I have some coordinates saved from my last outing to take us into the water crossing first then can kick it around on the interior trails for a while.

So just to confirm are we thinking the 7th or the 14th?

I sort of struggled to find this thread. Do we want to make a FB event and set a meetup point/time? Will be easier to share/follow that way.

@RustysBronco Sure for FB. Sometimes I'll post there as well, but with around 5,6 of us from here, just didn't think about it. 10:00am CST works great, so that's 11am for us technically which should help with the drive over. Meet up spot that @Rspayde gave sounds like a good deal. Highly recommend downloading offline maps of this area before heading out.

Also, will have GMRS and think most do, so let's settle on a channel for the day. Maybe CH 5, so as people get close we can communicate.

@Brrrnco I can get an event listing up on this group as well (I beleive). Will do that today at some point.

Sounds like a good ride. I’ll look to free up the 14th to join in.

Quick question for the group: are there any permits or passes required to enter Little River Canyon Wildlife Management Area? There are requirements to access Ga WLM area land, so thought I’d ask and be properly prepared.
Rspayde
Rspayde
@rws as far as I can tell no. I have been out there without issue a few times.

I think the only thing that requires a pass is a park south of where we will be.

Has anyone cross posted this to a Facebook group?

I think I have 4-6 vehicles just coming along with myself. Not counting the 6-8 folks on here who have stated interest.

Likely be a two group day! Now start praying for sunny days.

@Rspayde I hadn’t posted on Facebook due to the interest already on here. Not an issue to do so, but the forum members are ready to roll and that’s awesome. After this trip, I’m good with every other week, lol! Hope it’s dry, but forecast said rain early today, yet it’s coming later, so guess we’re in the hard to predict days of Summer.

Hey guys, unfortunately this trip you're gonna have to count me out. My mom had a heart attack week. I've been with her and will likely be helping to manage her care. Make sure you take a lot of pictures.

Also you might want to get a roll call on who's going. Sounds like a lot of interest.
