ARIZONA Bronco Club

Hi there! I plan to take my family off-roading this weekend and looking for some suggestions as I am a newbie to this. I did go with my friend on a trail around Saguaro Lake in the Rolls OHV area and it was decent. Others have recommended the road to Crown King Saloon (more for its beauty I am told) and then Bulldog canyon. I want something not too technical but also something more than just driving on a dirt road. I did go to a off-roadeo event last week so at least have the basics down. Thanks in advance!

road to crown king from I-17 is very nice and scenic... bumpy but not technical whatsoever. There are a couple places to eat up there and you end up in the pine trees; very nice up there. Then just double back on the same road. Once you're on the gravel - assume like ~1.5hr drive each way.
Bulldog Canyon I've not been on yet.. I don't believe it's very technical, but more than CrownKing for sure. Also note you need a permit to go there... it's cheap but heads up.
Also maybe look at going up the 87 to Four Peaks trail - that's pretty easy and good scenery but there will probably be more people there than the other two options.
Otherwise... just here to see suggestions from others as well.

If you go to Crown King, go see Horse Thief Basin. Beautiful lake and dam.

You’ll definitely want to go online, get the gate codes, and check out Bulldog Canyon. A bit rocky in places, but nothing too serious. Couple steep bits to play around and a sandy wash near the west entrance where you can have fun with the trail turn assist. Nice scenery too, and it’s close to town.

Bulldog Canyonis a fun run, there are also numerous areas in Sycamore Creek that are both challenging and easy. Montana Mountain Loop is great, not too challenging but a little dicey in a couple areas of the switchbacks. Gila River loop near Florence is a really pretty run with a couple obstacles, and also Ripsy Mine out I the same area is fun. Up to Sedona you have Greasy Spoon, which you can easily do (some good climbs there and lots of scenery), Broken Arrow is tougher and I would not do it alone, and Schnebly Hill Road is beautiful, however very rocky. I suggest airing down on all of these.
