Lots of people have run 0 offset 9" rims. I'm not sure what the scrub radius is afterwards, or if people even worry about it much. You will probably be able to fetch a pretty penny for the wheels that came with it!

The manual will have more control over the torque/acceleration than an automatic. I've never driven a 2.3 automatic, though. My wife's 2.7 auto has a lot of spunk. But I can control my 2.3 spunk better.

Defensive driving = yielding to assholes. While it's proper, here in Texas, I've just about stopped yielding to jerk 18 wheelers changing lanes while I'm in it. And people who stay in the "lane is closing" for 2 miles after the sign and expect me to let them in at the last minute. I'm over it.
